This is my first FanFiction. I hope you like it! This is set shortly after The Squab and the Quail.
The first ray of sunlight shines onto his face, and he opens his eyes. Something rests on his arm, and he notices that she's using his arm as a pillow. It hurts, and Rick's arm threatens to go numb, but he won't wake Kate. Her chest rises and falls, almost like a rhythm. Small, slow breaths in, and cute little puffs of air out. He watches her, sleeping, peaceful like she never is when awake. Some of Kate's hair is strewn across her face, and Rick brushes it away, careful not to wake her. She's amazing, and he falls in love with her all over again, in this one moment. His arm really will go numb now. The distraction of pain jolts him from his reverie, and he attempts to inch his poor, poor arm out from under her. When he finally frees himself, almost waking her up at least three times, he watches her.
Rick spoons her, and strokes her hair as she sleeps. He buries his nose in her hair, and breathes in the sweet scent of her cherry shampoo. Kate tenses, then relaxes again. "Creepy, Castle," she mumbles, half asleep.
"I can't help but watch. You're extraordinary, Kate, did you know that?"
She twists in his arms and turns to face him. Slowly, almost agonizingly slow, she presses her lips to his. "I know," she whispers, under her breath. "And I'm all yours. Don't worry about any rich, handsome billionaires coming after me."
"I know, and I'm sorry, I was just jealous."
Kate curls her body into his, as if seeking out warmth, and nods off again. Castle wraps his arms around her and pulls her in closer, towards him. "You know, even in sleep, you never cease to amaze me.
'What do you mean?"
"Just the way you are, is just amazing. The way you sleep, the way you breathe, the way you seem to gravitate towards me in the middle of the night because you're cold."
She opens her eyes again, looking at him. "You are too, you know. The way you chased after me for four years, even after i pushed you away, and lied to you, the way you bring me coffee every morning without fail, the way you look at me when you're sorry."
"Always."
They drift back into the realm of sleep, entangled in each others arms, faint smiles still on their lips.
