Disclaimer: I so own Twilight… APRIL FOOLS!! (in august!)

Bella's POV

"Alice, Rose I'll be right back! I am going to take Athena out for a walk!" I called into the small house. There were choruses of 'Okays' and 'good lucks' as I stepped out into the crisp October morning. Athena was my yellow Labrador retriever and one of my best friends. I got her five months ago when she was just a few weeks old…

"Alice, Rose I'll be right back! I am going out for a jog!" I yelled.

"Okay but don't be gone too long. We have to get ready for tonight. I would say be home by 3?" Alice said.

"Alice," I whined "I haven't gone jogging all week. Plus, we aren't going to dinner till 7. Why do I need four hours to get ready. At least give me till 3:30!" I argued.

"Bella, how many times have I told you that looking good takes time. Normally I would have started getting ready 2 hours ago but since you just have to go for a jog…"

"Alice," Rosalie said, cutting in. "Give Bella till 3:30 and I will get her ready this time. I can do it in half the time you can. Plus, you did it last time so it's my turn."

"No it's not!" Alice argued.

"Okay I'll be back at 3:30!" I said and quickly slipped out the door. I checked my watch and I had a good hour and a half to jog which means I have enough time to go down to the ocean front. We live in the middle of Newport, Rhode Island and about a ten minute drive from the ocean front, twenty if you're running. I stretched out a bit in the driveway and started running. I had been running for a good 7 minutes when a sign caught my eye. In the window of an old pet store, a sign hung saying, 'Puppy Labrador Retrievers for Sale'. I told myself that I would just go in and look and not get committed to anything but we all know that you can never do that. The bell on the door chimed as I walked in and a middle-aged lady looked up from a long white counter.

"Hello, May I help you?" she asked.

"Yes, I saw your sign outside as I was jogging and I was wondering if I could take a look at the puppies."

"Of course! Right this way," she said, leading me through a door, down a wide, carpeted hallway and through another door. Right in front of me was a baby playpen with seven yellow lab puppies.

"Oh my gosh, they're adorable!" I exclaimed.

"Yes they are but unfortunately, we are having a hard time getting rid of them. Not that we want to it's just that we can't keep up with them financially," she explained.

"How much are they going for?" I wondered aloud.

"Well, they are purebreds so I have been telling people 375," she said.

"That sounds… reasonable," I said. I picked up each puppy and none of them seemed to click that is until I got to the seventh one. As soon as I picked her up she started squirming around but I said a few calming words to her and she settled down. Her fur was a shade lighter than the other puppies and she had bigger ears and paws. You could tell that she wasn't fully grown into her body yet. Her eyes were a lighter shade of brown than the rest of them and her nose was dark and moist.

"Wow, you really have a way with her. She is the wildest one and she likes to boss the others around. Unfortunately she has some bad habits that need to be broken like chewing on things. All of the puppies aren't housebroken yet but we normally start that training when they are a little older," the kind woman informed me.

"I see. What was your name again?" I asked because I wasn't sure if she had already told me or not.

"Oh I am sorry. I haven't properly introduced myself. My name is Anita Smith. I am the owner of this place."

"Bella Swan," I said extending my hand out for her to shake. "I think she might be a winner. Does she have a name?" I asked.

"Yes her name is Athena."

It all went uphill from there. Except for of course when I brought her home. Alice flipped out saying something like 'we can buy the cutest little doggie outfits' which I shot down immediately. I don't think that animals should wear clothes. It's just wrong. Rosalie loves Athena. She had a dog when she was younger and was so excited to find out that I brought a puppy home. The lady at the store warned me but I didn't really listen. When we brought her home, she started chewing on everything! We bought her toys to chew on but she liked the couch better. Athena was a quick learner and was very intelligent but she liked to do stuff her way. We quickly taught her to go outside when she had to do her business but we haven't had much luck on other things. For example, walks. She likes to lunge at every dog that passes us, she drags me along sometimes if she is excited and she often chews through leashes which lead to a chase around the park in attempt to catch her. She is crazy in public and most people were afraid of her but Alice, Rosalie, and I love her. We consider her part of the family. Which brings us back to today.

I was the only one who took her on her walks because I was the only one to 'brave it' as Alice put it. They sometimes tag along but not usually. I consider the walks, bonding time.

I stuck the key in the lock of the door and turned it to lock the door when, of course, Athena got a little excited and lunged for a squirrel nearby. She started running which caused me to jerk suddenly which caused the key in the lock to snap in half. I stood there, not believing what I just witnessed for about a half a second before being yanked from the spot I was in by my too powerful dog.

"Dumb key… strong dog… didn't even have a cup of coffee this morning… damn," I muttered as I attempted to pull Athena back from the innocent squirrel. "Athena! Stop!" I commanded to the dog but of course it did no good.

Eventually I got her away from the squirrel and we somewhat continued our walk. "Athena, I think it's about time we looked into some obedience classes," I said to my best friend. As if it was fate, we

passed a small building with a sign in the window that read 'Dog Obedience Classes'. I would have to check that out when I didn't have an overly excited dog attached to my arm.

The next day…

Last night I talked to Alice and Rosealie about the classes and they both agreed that it was a good idea. Athena could use some good behavior lessons. I decided to go check it out today on my way to the grocery store. I pulled into the small gravel parking lot and got out of my car. The bell tinkled overhead as I walked into the building. As I walked in, I recognized the office-like space as a vet's office.

"Hello, my name is Bella Swan and I am interested in signing my dog up for obedience lessons," I told the gorgeous woman behind the counter. She had caramel colored hair and a roundish face. Her eyes were soft and her skin was pale and smooth.

"Hello, my mane is Esme. I need you to fill out these papers and return them and then we can talk about the price," she said as she handed me a clipboard with papers attached. I went and sat in one of the chairs in the waiting room. After I was done reading the information and filling in the lines, I went back up to the counter.

"Here you go."

"Thank you. Now we do a two week session that stars tomorrow night for fifty dollars. That is every other night or you can do the four week session which your dog will learn more intense skills if you would say for one hundred dollars which is also every other night. They got for two hours a night, starting at six and going till eight. They are held in a room in the back of the office. Now we have yet another form which you check the box next to the session in which you and your dog would like to attend and some other things. Make sure to sign at the bottom," she said as she handed me another clipboard with another form. I checked the four week box (Athena needs all the help she can get) and signed the bottom. I went back up to the counter, wrote a check for one hundred dollars and bid my goodbyes.

I quickly got the grocery shopping done and started the drive home, thinking about obedience class.

Hey! I know the first chapter isn't the best because it is mostly informational in a way but hopefully it caught some attention. It only gets better from here people!

I am not a dog owner but I think I know enough but feel free to correct me if anything is like way out of place or wrong or something. Reviews are always welcomed!!
