Hiding behind a smile
Hiding behind a smile
Chapter 1- New faces
Tenten sat up in her bed in alarm, the moaned in dismay. Today is my first day of school at Konoha Junior High!! she pouted, then brightened. At least I'll have a chance to meet new people!! Wonder who my teachers will be….
After making her bed, she opened up her closet, hmmm-ing at her clothes. Grabbing a black and red tight fitting T-Shirt and a pair of flare jeans, she put them on and stared at her reflection in her mirror.
"Ahhh!" she gasped. "My HAIR!!"
Her long, thick brown hair hung in tangles down her back. Seizing a hairbrush, she attacked her hair in a frenzy, squealing in pain with every knot she loosened.
"Finally!!" she sighed, setting down the brush. She admired herself in her mirror, running her fingers through her glossy curtain of hair. Tying them into two buns on either side of her head, she put on some eyeliner and mascara.Grabbing a pair of sandals, she seized her jam-packed backpack and trotted down the stairs, humming cheerily to herself.
"Morning, Mom!" she waved to a tall, brunette woman sitting at the kitchen table.
"Morning, sweetie," her mother replied with a smile. She examined Tenten. "You look great, honey."
Tenten flushed. She grabbed an apple and slipped on her sandals.
"Leaving already?" her mother said surprisingly.
" I want to get there as soon as I can," Tenten said simply, swinging her pack over her shoulder.
Her mother sighed.
"Alright," she said wearily, then smiled knowingly. "Have a great day honey! I won't be here when you get home, but it's fine if you bring a friend home with you. I'm trusting you not to do anything…." She trailed off, raising an eyebrow at Tenten, sho flushed scarlet.
"MOM!!" she shrieked. Her mother laughed and waved a hand.
" You'd better get going," she said. Tenten nodded, and was out the door in a flash, waving at her mother through the outside window.
She waited at her bus stop, tapping her foot in rhythm to a song she was singing. She had written it the day before.
"I try to make it through my life, in my way, there's you.
I try to make it through these lies, and that's all I do.
Just don't deny it. Don't try to fight this and deal with it, and it's just part of it.
If you were dead or still alive, I don't care, I don't care.
Just go and leave this all behind, 'cause I swear, I don't care."
At that moment, her bus pulled up, swinging its doors open with a Swoosh! Taking a deep breath, she climbed up the steps and paused at the front of the aisle. All but one seat was empty.
Tenten walked down the rows of seats, stopping in front of the one that was taken.
A pretty girl with bright pink hair and jade green eyes sat with her hands folded in her lap, staring down at her shoes. Sensing Tenten's presence, she looked up and smiled hesitantly.
"Hi!" the girl said, meeting Tenten's gaze. "I'm Sakura Haruno."
" I'm Tenten," Tenten replied. "Is it alright if I sit with you?"
Sakura nodded, scooting over. Tenten sat down, setting her bag down. She turned to face Sakura.
" I'm so nervous," she confessed. "I just moved here two weeks ago."
" I'm scared too," Sakura implored, nodding in understanding. She pumped her fist in the air. "But I'm also so excited!"
"Likewise!" Tenten agreed. Maybe today won't be so bad…she thought as she pulled out her schedule, showing it to Sakura. Not so bad at all…that was when the next person got on the bus, and turned her world upside down forever.
