As far as I was concerned it was another pointless day at school. As if I didn't know everything there was to know already. I stared at the white bricked wall. I was alone-well not in the literal sense, but in the emotional sense. I had two "brothers" and two "sisters" that were together. There were Rosalie and Emmett, who enjoyed each other's company a tad bit too much, and then there were Alice and Edward, who were connected mentally as well as physically.

Edward could read minds-humans, vampires, werewolves, and, well, anything that could think. We all became used to not having much privacy in our minds, but Edward tried to give us what privacy he could. Alice could see the future. They balanced each other out.

I was the only other in our family with a so-called "power." Us three were the freaks among freaks. I could feel and control emotions, and at the moment I was fighting a flood of emotions. Being at school means dealing with every emotion thinkable.

At the moment though, everybody in the cafeteria had pretty much the same emotions running through their minds, anxiety, interest, confusion, and for most guys lust. There was a new student coming in today. My family knew about it way before anyone else because Alice got the flash of a vision of her being here. All I knew was that her name was Isabella Swan, but she preferred Bella.

I haven't seen the girl yet, and I wasn't really interested in another insignificant human. It was already hard enough for me to control myself around humans, so getting involved with one would be a terrible idea. Being the newest to accept this lifestyle isn't the easiest. I am glad that I don't have to feel the pain of my prey anymore, but it's a hard choice. Edward turned his head toward the doors of the cafeteria, and I followed his eyes, wanting to know what exactly caught his attention.

Before I actually saw what he was looking at, I felt the emotions in the cafeteria change quickly. I felt utter amazement, envy, that damned lust again, and even sorrow. I focused on where the sorrow was coming from. The emotion was coming from Angela Weber; she was a shy girl, who always had calm and caring emotions seeping from her. I never would believe that a girl could be so nice and sincere. I wondered why she was sad, but I didn't care for too long. Other emotions caught my attention.

I looked back to where Edward was staring. A petite girl with a heart-shaped face and smoldering chocolate brown eyes stepped into the cafeteria with that wretched Jessica Stanley. She was probably using this new girl as a prop. She needed attention, and she was getting it from her newfound friend.

I concentrated on the girl again. Edward already lost interest; he seemed a little frustrated with this girl.

"I am not frustrated with her." he snarled quietly as he read my thoughts.

"Well then what's your problem?" I asked him through my thoughts.

"It doesn't matter." he growled. I decided to leave it alone. He was getting angry with me.

I looked at the girl again. She had chestnut-colored hair that hung down to her lower back. She was sitting with Jessica, Lauren, Angela, and a few of the one's who I got the emotion lust from, Mike Newton and Erik Yorkie. Judging by the looks of her, she wouldn't give them the time of day.

I wanted to know what she was feeling. She looked distressed; I wish I knew why. She was shy. I could tell from the way her shoulders were hunched over. She didn't seem to like all the attention she was getting. Most girls enjoy being the center of attention. I wanted to know what her thoughts were so bad.

"Edward," I thought the words quickly, hoping to get a reaction. He turned his head slightly towards me, and I knew I had his attention. "Could you do me a small favor?" I asked him, praying that he forgave me for pressing a non-important issue earlier. He nodded his head quickly. "That new girl… Could you tell me what she's thinking?" He gave me a puzzled look, but nodded again.

He looked at the girl again. She was staring at us. Everybody did; it was nothing new. We were gorgeous to the humans. Even though I couldn't read minds like Edward, I could still hear her delicate voice amongst the crowd of people. She was talking to Jessica Stanley, turned slightly towards us.

"Who are they?" that was the first question she asked, nodding towards me and my family.

Jessica rolled her eyes, but answered the question. "The Cullens." she answered simply. Bella looked confused, so Jessica, being the type of girl who enjoyed to gossip, continued on. "None of them are actually related except for two… They are all adopted by this doctor Carlisle and his wife Esme. The gorgeous blond is Rosalie Hale, and she's dating Emmett Cullen. The small black-haired girl is Alice Cullen, and she's with Edward Hale." she scoffed.

She didn't even bother mentioning me. She's always had a distaste for me after I rejected her so many times last year. Her anger was fusing out, but Bella didn't notice. She continued to stare at our table. Her eyes swept from Rosalie and Emmett to Alice and Edward-who was still reading her thoughts-to me lastly.

Then she blushed when she caught me staring right back at her. Big mistake. Warm blood flood through her cheeks, and her skin happened to be so thin and translucent that I could see it pulsing even more clearly than other humans. I fidgeted in my seat. I should've hunted last night, but they were trying to test how long I could go, build up my endurance. I wanted to walk right up to Bella and take her away, just to see how her blood would taste...

Then Edward kicked my chair. I looked at him, "Sorry." I mumbled.

"It's okay." he said.

"What was she thinking?" my curiosity was getting the best of me, and my siblings noticed.

"Well, I honestly don't know…" he replied.

"What?" that was a surprise. When didn't he know when someone was thinking? How peculiar.

"It was like she wasn't even sitting there, but as far as what I could tell she was getting the dirty details on us. Jessica was sending you daggers in her mind, Newton and Yorkie are imagining themselves falling in love with the girl, and Angela feels sorry for her." he said quickly. If any human was close enough to hear, they wouldn't of actually heard a word he said for it was too low and quick for human ears.

We were all confused at that. Alice was already at work, trying to comfort Edward. He wasn't having none of it. "Edward, she's just one girl. Who cares if you can't read her mind?" she whispered, rubbing his hand.

He snapped back, usually he didn't act this way, but he was really frustrated with his failure. Rosalie and Emmett stared at him as he stood up and grabbed his tray. "I just need some time alone." he walked off as soon as the words came out of his mouth.

Alice sat there for a few moments. She was confused by his anger. She stood quickly and gathered her things. "I'll see you guys after school." she went to dump her tray and went the opposite direction of Edward. Sometimes I thought maybe she could read his mind as well because they were always in sync and knew exactly what the other needed at all times. They were the complete converse of Rosalie and Emmett, who were more flashy with their relationship.

Rosalie and Emmett shrugged it off and continued to talk about a third honeymoon this year. They acted as if they didn't "honeymoon" every other night here in Forks.

I looked back at Bella, not really caring for Rosalie and Emmett's conversation. I happened to look at her the same time she glanced at me. She blushed again, and this time I didn't have Edward to sidetrack me. I wanted to jump up and charge towards her. The blood pulsing through her looked so delicious. Then I looked up to her chocolate brown eyes, and instantly stopped thinking of an attack on her. Her chocolate brown eyes held so many secrets. Edward couldn't read her mind, but you could see her thoughts on her face clearly.

Brown eyes were usually flat and emotionless, but Bella's eyes were different. They were full of innocence at the moment. They widened as she realized that I was staring at her. I felt her embarrassment. I wanted her to feel comfortable, so I used my simple power on her. She instantly relaxed.

I smiled, feeling content for the first time in ages. Then she turned to Jessica. I listened to what she said intently. "Who is the boy with honey blonde hair?" she asked, sneaking a glance at me.

Jessica sneered at Bella's interest in me. "That's Jasper Hale. He's Rosalie's Twin brother. But, don't waste your time. Apparently none of the girls here are worth his time. I guess none of us are pretty enough." she said. I could feel the venom she threw towards me. I turned my head, so she couldn't see my grin.

If only Jessica knew why I wasn't interested. If she could even comprehend why I wasn't involved with the girls at our school. They were all lucky I wasn't attracted to any of them. I'd hate to know what would happen if my teeth got anywhere near any of these girls.

Bella nodded her head grasping what Jessica meant when she explained things about me. I could feel that Bella had a mixture of feelings now. Revulsion from how Jessica could judge a person like she did, amazement from how different my family was, and wonder. I wanted to know what the wonderment was from, but of course I had no one to tell me her thoughts. Even though Edward couldn't read her mind anyways…

"Jasper, are you coming with us?" Emmett spoke. I didn't bother to turn and look at him. We always left lunch early to walk to class together, even though we all had different classes. Emmett, Rosalie, and I were all pretending to be seniors this year, while Edward and Alice pretended to be juniors.

I held my gaze with Bella a few more moments, and then turned to look at Rosalie and Emmett. "Yeah." I grabbed my tray and followed them to dump our trays and leave.

The last emotion I felt as I walked out the door was… I wasn't sure; it was a mixture of sadness and loneliness. I wanted to turn around and make her feel better, but I couldn't. The last thing she needed to help make her feel better was a vampire. I stepped outside, feeling extremely sad.
