Author's Note: So, funny story. I actually wrote this the day before the season 8 finale because I was thinking about what Dean would do if Cas fell and became like the Cas in the episode "The End." So, here yah go, review and comment and feel free to message me any story requests if you want :)
I can't help him.
The thought runs through Dean's mind as he holds the angel closer to him. The empty pill bottle rolls across the floor, the momentum or its fall carrying it across the room.
This is the first time. Or, at least the first time Dean's caught the angel (literally) after witnessing him down an entire bottle of prescription pain killers.
It hurts him to know that the angel-his angel- was feeling this way and hadn't come to him to talk about it, but had instead decided to turn to this.
It hurts him more to know that he'd seen this. He'd been to his future, he'd seen what a mess Castiel had made of himself, and he still hadn't been able to prevent it. Castiel had still fallen, had still lost his wings, his grace, and he had still done this to try and cope with being human. Dean couldn't change it, couldn't stop it.
All he can do is hold Castiel closer and pray to God- if there is one and if he even listens to the words Dean is muttering fervently under his breath- that he isn't too late.
