Melissa Albright was sitting on a bench in the Saint Heart's yard. Beside her was a packet of biscuits. Every so often, she would eat one. They were chocolate chip biscuits. Not cookies, cookies are slightly gooey and soft, these biscuits were hard. Very crunchy too, which was good, as they gave her something to release her anger onto.

She glared over to where Daniel Morgan was standing with, ugh, Zoe London. Melissa didn't know what Dan saw in Zoe. Zoe was overly childlike, which was annoying. She was good in PE, English, Maths, Science, Drama, Techie, Music, Art, IT, and RE, she was too perfect. The only thing she wasn't good at was Home Ec, but Melissa wasn't any good at it either, so that was no good. Zoe was popular as well, goodness knew why. She wasn't what Melissa would call pretty, but everyone else seemed to think so. Everyone said how friendly she was, but she was quite stand-offish towards Melissa. Melissa took another bite of biscuit, still watching Zoe and Dan. They were laughing and flirting. Melissa glowered. Byron was walking over to Zoe and Dan. Melissa leaned in to watch. This was going to be interesting.

Across the yard, Dan had just made a really funny joke about sheep and Ed Millibaaaa-nd. It hadn't actually been that funny, but Zoe was laughing, because it is a universally acknowledged fact that we laugh at things said by one with whom we are in love. Either that, or they or out of context, or possibly, dare I say it, funny. Dan's joke was not funny or out of context.

"Hi Zoe." said Byron. Zoe spun round. Byron had been standing behind her.

"Um, hi?" she replied.

"I've written a song for you. Would you like to hear it?" asked Byron.

Dan was trying not to laugh, but Zoe elbowed him in the chest.

"We'd love to hear your song." she told Byron. Byron put his guitar strap around his neck, and began to strum a few chords. Then, he began to sing.

"Zoe, Zoe, Zoe, Zoe-eee. Please don't ignore my efforts just because you can.

Zoe, Zoe, Zoe, Zoe-eee. Please don't damp my spirits just because you can.

Zoe, Zoe, Zoe, Zoe-eee. Please don't reject my feelings just because you can.

Zoe, Zoe, Zoe, Zoe-eee. Please don't break my heart just because you can."

Zoe and Dan exchanged glances once Byron was finished.

"That was..." began Dan.

"Lovely." Zoe butted in. "Thanks Byron. You're a really good friend."

Ouch thought Melissa. Friendzone. Melissa could hear the conversation, it was quiet. When Byron started to sing, everyone had stopped to listen, and now they wanted to know what was going to happen next. Zoe and Dan went back to chatting, as did everything else. Byron walked over to Melissa's bench wearily. He sat down on it, so that the pack of biscuits were between them. Every so often, he ate one, glaring over at where Zoe London was standing with, ugh, Daniel Morgan.

Valentine's day sucks thought Melissa. Still, I can beat Zoe at chess.

Please review : ) By the way, Byron's song is to the tune of Joleen by

Dolly Parton. I made up the lyrics, she owns the rest. I just had the song

stuck in my head.
