Cold.
That was the perfect way to describe the world from your point of view. Every day, people walked all over each other and added to the cold feeling that seemed to hang around all of humanity. And it didn't look like it was going to change anytime soon.
The social injustices the world retained in the place of "peace" were something you were well aware of. However, many people didn't realize just how far down this realization reached within you. That's what made your job so easy. Anyone will just take a gander at a person, place or thing at face value. It was just how human nature worked. So seeing your seemingly naïve and innocent features made people drop their guard around you for the most part. It wasn't until it was too late that they would realize their mistake.
In many ways, you could be seen as two people at once. One was the "harmless" side; meanwhile the other was in no way merciful. Such things came with the job, you supposed. After all, you had seen things most civilians could never imagine; things they could never even contemplate were part of reality.
But the world you lived in was the truth; harsh and deafening in its entirely cruel wake. It would destroy all those normal people in the blink of an eye should they ever notice its presence. That was why people like you existed.
Your type of people acted as silent protection for the citizens of each specific country. However, your efforts were never known. Citizens would berate and try to punish you and your common men should the truth rise into the light. After all, "peace" comes at a price; and it just happens to be blood.
Everyone who is like you is stained with it. Adding to the unspoken factor of how different you all were from the rest. This is why your fake innocence is so valuable. It allows you to remain in the light, but still function as an operative. It's been this way for as long as you can remember; and nothing will ever change it.
Or so you thought.
