I opened my eyes to the blinding light that surrounded me. My whole body was numb, a cold pain stinging in my chest. "So, you're finally awake…" said a gentle voice, hidden in the breeze. Opening my eyes completely, I looked around for the source, spotting a white figure a couple meters away from me. Realizing that I was lying on the floor, I stood up and looked around the room. It was exactly the same…the same as the room I met Near in…the same as the room I was killed in by the Death Note… "How?!" The white figure turned around and looked at me. "I was killed, wasn't I!? How am I still alive!! Who are you?!" "Yagami Light…also known as kira…" said the black haired man, curiously looking at me. He was dressed all in white, so technically he could be a doctor…but the rules clearly said that whoever's name is written down will die…so no doctor could help me… "Seems like you know a bit about me, however, I don't know anything about you." His green eyes glistened with enthusiasm, as a hidden smile formed on his face. "Who are you?" His smile widened. "Someone like you should know, that everything in the world is balanced…if there's life, there must also be death. If there are gods of death" "Then there must also be gods of life…" I finished for him. "Why did you save me?" He softly chuckled. "Gods of resurrection are given a thousand years to live, which they give away to people they wish to save. They sacrifice their own lifetime to save others who will never even understand what was sacrificed for their revival. Most resurrection gods only live about thirty years, no more that thirty five, out of the one thousand that were given to them. I do not wish to…" "If you don't wish to die so early, then why don't you just not save anyone?" He chuckled again. "It's not that simple. If we do not save anyone for a while, we start getting older. Eventually, if we do not save anyone, we will die of old age." "That still doesn't explain why you saved me." He looked up at me, my eyes meeting his blue gaze. "I've come to realize, that no matter what I do, it's a loose-loose situation. However, a god of resurrection can become a god of death. All he needs to do is obtain a death note…" "To me, it seems like you could do that by yourself…" I looked at him carefully, studying any signs that might give away his plan. "I could…except for one little detail. The note has to be willingly given up to me…" So that's it… I could feel my own lips form a tight smile. "So I guess you want me to get one and give it to you, then." He nodded. "But how can you be sure that I will give it to you. You realize that I can make good use of it as well…" His expression tightened. "I figured you might ask something like this. Firstly, I did save your life…" "Which doesn't mean that I am under any obligation to help you." He sighed. "Secondly, if you fool me, I can easily report you to Near, who will lock you up for good…" I laughed to myself. "If you think you will kill Near before I report you, I can tell you now, you can't." He saw right through it… "Why not?" "Because in the past five years, his appearance changed." Past five years? "So I've been out for five years?" "Yes." Five years…everyone must be completely sure I'm dead. "And thirdly, I will leave you all the pages of the death note, and only keep the cover." "I can agree to those terms." He smiled, as his eyes sparkled with excitement. I smiled as well. This is just about perfect…first, I'll kill Near, then I can finally become the new God of this world… "What is your name?" "Call me Shiro."
