"Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any grave image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth…" These words, these words that I will repeat for eternity.

My job as an angel is to repeat the 10 commandments everyday for all of heaven to hear. Every angel has a separate job and we all are acceptable of what we have to do. We rarely talk amongst each other because after we have done our task, we are to sing in the golden streets for the people of heaven.

"Tariel!"

I turned around just in time to see the man standing in front of me. "Lucifer, thou shall must be doing their task at this hour. What brings you to me?"

"Thou shall help me!" He pleaded, sorrow in his face. "God does not understand my greatest gifts! I shall rise above him, and you shall be by my side!"

"Why do you speak of such craziness?" I asked. "You will be damned if you try such a thing!"

He looked at me with such hate and turned the other way and ran. I was so confused, tried to chase after him, but it was useless. Then I tried to remember what exactly he said, and then I remembered his eyes. That is the first time I have ever seen hate.

After Lucifer disappeared off the street, everything went for the bad. My singing was off, I was stuttering the commandments, and all I could think about was Lucifer. He was one of my friends when we were first put in the positions of angels. We grew up together, and I did not want anything bad to happen to him.

That night, everything seemed wrong. The stars did not seem to shine bright, there were clouds rolling above, the other angels had looks of horror on their face, and worst of all, Lucifer was missing.

I woke up that morning with a booming voice. "Wake up Tariel! God is commanding us to the garden. We mustn't disobey him."

I opened my eyes to see Uriel staring at me. I stood up and followed him to the garden. Once we arrived I saw all of the other angels scattered around the garden. I made my way towards the front of the altar, where God usually sits, to see if he was there. He wasn't.

"My children," Said a loud, dark voice, coming from every direction. "I shall tell you this news because of its horrible price that all of you shall regretfully pay for. Your brother Lucifer tried to overthrow me, but he was foolish and was damned. Because of his foolishness, you all must pay."

I looked around the garden to see all of the surprised faces of the angels. Some were crying, some were horrified, and some stood perfectly still. Then God started again, "There shall be 5 ranks of angels, 1st rank shall be Archangels, the 2nd shall be Powers, the 3rd shall be Virtues, the 4th shall be Cherubim, and the 5th shall be Guardians."

I knew that the highest rank would be Archangels, because of how all of the heads raised when he said those words. We all wanted to be the top, but we knew that it is a sin to want, so we kept our mouths shut. A wave was sent out and we received our ranks.

I was a Guardian Angel.
