This came from a random idea I had to combine "Pushing Daisies" and "H2O: Just Add Water" So it has PD characters with some H2O mermaid-type stuff. I don't own either show or have any connection to them whatsoever other than having watched them.
Chuck's Tail
At this very moment, in the town of Coeur d'Coeurs, Charlotte Charles is 14 years, 11 months, 29 days, 23 hours, and 58 minutes old. In exactly 2 minutes she would be 15 years old. During these last couple minutes before the advancing of her age, she thought about what her aunts, former Darling Mermaid Darlings Vivian and Lily Charles, had told her 2 days, 5 hours and 39 minutes ago… That when she turned 15, she would turn into a mermaid 10 seconds after water touched her skin.
In her bedroom with the door locked and a glass of water in her hand, Chuck sat on her bed and waited until the exact moment that her birth had taken place 15 years before and then dumped the glass of water on her legs. As she counted to 10, she tried to decide whether or not she really wanted to change and be different from all the other girls. When the 10 seconds was over, she felt herself turn to water for the slightest bit of a second. When she looked down at her body, she saw a long, beautiful orange tail where her legs had been not long ago. Her clothes had strangely disappeared as well and she saw that her chest was covered with orange scales (like the ones that covered her tail) that seemed to go around her back and neck like a bathing suit top would.
She sat there staring at her new tail for what seemed like forever when it suddenly disappeared and her legs reappeared. Her aunts had said that she would change back the second she dried completely. She noticed that all her clothes and jewelry that had disappeared when her transformation occurred were back as if nothing had happened at all.
She decided she was happy to have another thing in common with her aunts, who had the same genetic "condition" that she now had. Although it amazed her that her father just happened to meet a woman who had something as rare as this in common with his step-sisters. It also amazed her that her aunts were able to keep this a secret, even though they performed using their real tails but pretended that they were fake (they'd said something about having a private underwater entrance into the pools they performed in to "keep the mermaid illusion more real for the audience".)
And then her thoughts wandered to Ned, the boy who lived across the street from her when she was 8. She wondered if she'd ever see him again. And what he would've thought of the new her if he had never left.
As Chuck laid on her side with her hand pressed against the bedroom wall of Ned's apartment, not realizing that his hand was on the other side of the wall as he laid on the couch, she thought about the secret of his that she just found out about and wondered when she should share her secret with him.
But there was one thing she was relieved about… At least dead girls don't transform into mermaids when their bodies are thrown off a cruise ship.
