Blessing
Callidora knew better than to go against her cousins' wishes.
There were certain things you just learn to live with when you're born into the Black family. Her grandfather Phineas had explained much of it to her when she was a child. When she was in school, she'd be called into his office every Saturday with her cousins and sisters to learn the family history.
As she became older, it became clear what was expected of a proper pureblood witch – at least by her grandfather's standards.
She married a nice pureblood man and they had two beautiful pureblood children. As far as the cousins were concerned, Callidora had fulfilled her duty by carrying on the family. Her youngest sister, Charis, had done the same.
Why couldn't 'Drella ever listen?
Callidora remembered when her middle sister had visited and told her she was seeing Septimus Weasley. Callidora never had any problem with it of course, but she knew the rules; she knew how her family would react.
"Uncle Sirius and Uncle Cygnus won't let you be with him for long," she'd warned.
But Cedrella always did whatever she wanted, and now she was paying the price for it. She'd gone and married the supposed blood traitor and now her uncles and cousins were throwing a hissy fit, in Callidora's opinion.
"They're disowning her," she told her husband that night, laughing about the whole ordeal.
"I'm not sure it's an amusing tale," Harfang said slowly.
"Of course it is. It's not like she'll really be disowned. Me and Charis will still talk to her, and Mum and Dad if they want anything to do with their grandchildren. Goodness, it's not like we stopped seeing Uncle Phineas, or Cousin Marius, the poor dear, he's a squib," Callidora sighed. "Disowning only matters in the Black lines – Uncle Sirius' and Uncle Cygnus' families. I don't even think Auntie Belvina cares!"
Harfang wrung his hands nervously. "Just be careful, darling. I'd hate for you to get into trouble over your sister's actions."
Callidora scoffed. "Believe me, getting disowned would a blessing."
