" Lily?"

" Hmm?"

" It's 3 am."

" I know."

" Okay."

" Do you ever miss your brother?"

" No."

"Never?"

"I miss the person he used to be."

"Yeah, me too."

" People change."

" Or maybe you just never knew who they really were."

" Sis giving you trouble?"

" She's getting married."

" Who'd want to marry her?"

" A walrus of sorts."

" Good riddance."

" She's my sister."

" No, she isn't."

" She doesn't want me to be bridesmaid. I'm pretty sure she only invited me because of Mum."

" Don't go then."

" I'm her sister."

" Sirius?"

" Yes?"

" Something you want to say?"

" Not particularly."

" Okay."

" Regulus is joining the Death Eaters."

" Isn't he a sixth year?"

" He's a fool."

" Sometimes people make bad choices. There was nothing you could have done."

" Maybe if I had stayed..."

" You did what you had to do."

" Isn't a brother supposed to be selfless, always caring about his siblings need more than his own?"

" Isn't a sister supposed to be loving and ever forgiving?"

" Sometimes I wish I had been put in Slytherin, I could've saved him."

" Sometimes I wish I hadn't got my Hogwarts letter, I'd still have a sister."

" Is it worth it?"

" Most of the time."

" He was always the favourite kid, always the perfect little boy. He looked up to me even though I wasn't. "

" People change."

" Or maybe their mask falls off."

" We used to be best friends. She and I. We did everything together. And now she hates me."

" At least she's the only one."

" Your mum never wrote to you after you left home?"

" Of course not, lovely lady that she is."

" Do you miss home?"

" I can't decide what I miss more - the dark hallway decorated with the plaques of elf heads or the dining room filled with a tapestry linking all my pure blood loving ancestors to one another. But I do think I miss our lovely house elf the most. Nicest little thing you could find, always telling me what a disgrace and shame I am to the name of Black."

Lily laughed, a clear tinkling sound and Sirius soon started laughing too.

" Does everyone get married to their cousins?"

" Almost. Although mother's parents were first cousins."

Lily shot him an incredulous look.

" Yes and my grandmother's sister is James' mum in fact. "

" Really?"

" Yes, but she's nothing like them. "

" Oh thank god."

" Is dear lilykins afraid she won't get her future mother-in-law's approval?" he teased.

She threw a pillow at him. Sirius told her more about his family and she laughed when he told her about the music box that knocked everyone out when it played.

Suddenly there was a noise and a tall messy black haired boy came down the steps rubbing his eyes.

"Now if you two best buddies are done discussing your oh-so tragic family lives, everyone else would like some decent sleep," he said irritably.

Lily smiled, James was always so cranky in the morning.

"Of course prongsie boy. We were just heading to bed," said Sirius.

"Catch you later, Evans," said Sirius.

"Goodnight, Lils," mouthed James.

Then, both boys headed up to their dormitory leaving Lily to her thoughts.
