Hawaii Five-0 is property of CBS and its creators.

A/N: Elise Deschat was insistent someone else must have seen Danny. Here's the explanation. If you're still not buying it, I claim creative license. :)

"We got a runner!" Duke heard in his ear.

"Copy that," Duke responded. "Where's he headed?"

There was a pause, then-"towards the roof!" Danny already sounded out of breath. Duke didn't envy him. The sergeant was grateful it wasn't him; he was getting too old for foot chases, especially ones up multiple flights of stairs.

"We'll cover the adjoining buildings," Duke assured Danny. The officer motioned several of his men to the building on the left, and several more to the building on the right. He left the remainder with their backs to the building, keeping an eye out for any gawkers. Duke wasn't worried about them being surprised from behind—Five-0 seemed to have the situation in hand, and the suspect was moving up, not down. Danny hadn't indicated more than one, so they didn't have to worry about that. They were also lucky this was the kind of neighborhood where people were more likely to hide in their apartments if they saw cops; there weren't many people about to worry about. Checking to see that his men were in place—the ones on both sides had already disappeared into their respective buildings, and Duke was sure they had the lobby covered in both cases—Duke headed to the right to check for a fire escape.

As Duke rounded the corner, he saw Steve and Danny land on the ground in front of him. Duke swore he saw large wings, like a finch's, sprouting from Danny's back. Duke blinked, hard. The hot sun must be playing tricks on him; they must have just come down the fire escape, and Duke was imagining the wings. He looked again, more intently. Nope, they were still there. And—Duke checked, just to make sure—there was no fire escape. Duke could have blamed age, or medication, but he wasn't taking any, and he knew he was still sharp as a tack. That meant Danny really must have wings.

Really, why should that be so strange? Legends of Maui held that he could turn himself into a bird. Why wouldn't he have winged descendants? The old gods were known as a randy, prolific lot, after all.

Of course, Danny wasn't a native, but that didn't mean anything. Danny's roots were in the British Isles, and they had their winged gods and mythical creatures, too. Duke vaguely recalled some sort of winged, Celtic sun god from his mythology courses in college. Mythology had always fascinated him, both native Hawaiian and others. Duke was more than willing to believe those myths had some basis in fact, and here, in front of him, was proof.

Duke's musings were interrupted by a shout from one of his men. "We got him!" Duke turned to see his men leading the suspect, snarling and struggling, out of the building on the right.

"Take him downtown," Duke ordered before turning his attention back to the scene between the buildings.

Danny's wings were gone, and the members of Five-0 were headed towards Duke.

"What's up?" Steve asked as though nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

If that was the way they wanted to play it, that was fine with Duke. "My men caught him coming out of the building next door. They're taking him downtown now." Duke was careful to school his features so he gave nothing away. Danny's secret was safe with him.

A/N: Yes, I researched the mythology. Both the Hawaiian and the Celtic god (Bladud) are real legends.
