From across the room, I watched the unmoving figure on the couch. With his hands behind his head and his eyes staring up at the ceiling, he seemed a bit… unhappy. On any normal day, he would be constantly moving and talking, making noise throughout the safehouse and driving us all mad. But now that I think about it, the silence in the room right now was also strangely maddening.

Leaving the room, I formulated a plan that hopefully would make him… a little more like himself.

Walking up to the still supine figure, I waited until his eyes drew away from the ceiling to focus on me.

"How about a game?" I asked him, shuffling the deck of cards I'd found in our shared room. One eyebrow rose with suspicion but a slight shrug of his shoulder indicated his acceptance. Sitting down on the carpet, I dealt out the cards. He made no move to sit up, but he did reach for the cards on the floor. Still lying down, he glanced at his hand before throwing it down to the floor.

"Two pair." I looked down at my own hand.

"Full house." A snicker came from him and he propped himself up on one elbow.

"This coming from a person who never played Poker in his life?" He looked at me challengingly.

"Deal again."

Game after game after that went to me but his grin returned as well as his boisterous voice.

"How the hell can you get another straight flush?! Deal again!" He had slid down from the couch and was sitting cross-legged in front of me. Looking at my hand, I saw that I'd got another full house.

"Full house," I declared, showing him my cards. He was silent and I assumed that I had won yet again.

"Read 'em and weep," he told me, showing off his Royal flush. I blinked in surprise; I hadn't even gotten that. He collected all the cards and leant back against the couch.

"Thanks." He smiled slightly, brushing his bangs with one hand. "I don't know why you… But anyway, thanks." I nodded, satisfied that he was back to normal and got up to leave the room.
