I do not own Ranma or its characters and make no profit for writing these stories.
Background: this was a real story I had with my husband regarding which paint/finish I wanted my new red kitchen cabinets to be. Btw, it is me in Ranma's role and him in Akane's believe it or not! I found it humourous enough to make it a short fic lol.
Ranma sighed as his pregnant wife put yet another yellow paint sample on the wall with tape, in the room they had deemed as their nursery for their offspring. Their crib, changing table and other furniture was in its original packaging ready to assembled closer to their due date. The only thing preventing it was choosing a freaking colour of yellow paint for the wall and there seemed to him, to be an endless supply of yellow coloured paint!
"Which one do you think?" she asked him.
Ranma glared at the two hundred plus other square samples that were becoming his cheerful little enemies as she added more of them daily, that they were supposed to help him decide was ludicrous; they all looked the same to him! "Just picture the whole room that colour" Akane had helpfully suggested.
"That one; it's perfect" he declared, picking one at random.
"Pollen powder? But that's a little too light, I was either thinking Cheerful or Butter Up" Akane said with a frown.
Ranma could not believe it was someone's job to come up with idiotic names for paint colours!
"You're right. Cheerful, it is all the way" he said, giving her an irresistible smile.
"I'm so happy you agree with me" she said, kissing him and he hugged her.
"Now what finish?" she asked him.
"Huh?" he asked her.
"Well do we want to go with satin, eggshell or matt?" she asked him, holding square sample finishes out to him, in yet more yellow colours. "Satin might be too shiny for the afternoon sun but eggshell might look too dark if we go with Cheerful. I'm thinking eggshell myself, so we might have to start again and consider a lighter colour. Ranma why are you laying facedown on the floor, pounding your fists on it and crying "why me?"" she asked him with a frown.
