A Challenge

Raven loved San Francisco. It was more of a home to her than New York ever had been. The people were more friendly, more open. California definitely lived up to all the stereotypes. She relished the early morning fog that covered the bay like a blanket, and welcomed the sunshine that came later in the day.

She walked down Embarcadero Street past businessmen in suits, tourists in khakis, and skateboarders in hoodies. The water off the pier sparkled in the afternoon sun.

It had been a good day at James Madison High School. No one had bothered her much, and her friends understood when she said she couldn't hang out. She was going to visit the Teen Titans.

Raven was now a member of the Titans, who had split from the Teen Titans. Their team included Nightwing, Starfire, Beast Boy, Red Arrow, Cyborg, the Flash, Troia, and herself. The Teen Titans, who still used Titans Island in the middle of the San Francisco Bay, was made up of Robin, Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle, Kid Devil, Super Girl, Miss Martian, and the Ravager. The last time Raven had seen them was at Kid Flash's funeral.

She stepped out of the submarine that went from the mainland to the Titans Tower. She was greeted enthusiastically by Miss Martian.

"Raven! It's been a while. Is everything okay?"

"Yes. I just wanted to see how everyone was doing here."

"Look, Eddie, it's the Witch," said Rose Wilson, not unkindly, dragging Kid Devil with her up to Raven. Ever since their fight with Teen Titans East Raven had been more at ease around Eddie, despite his demonic appearance.

"Hi, Raven," he said, rubbing his arm nervously. "Or do you prefer Rachel?"

"Raven is more appropriate here, I think," she replied. "Rachel is just for school."
