Extra: Never saw blue
Kaylee and Emily were sat on the grass outside the Sunnydale train station hiding from the sun under a big tree. It was one of the hottest days on record and the two girls were sweating even in the shade. It was nearly noon and the few people that were out and moving about very dragging their feet as the heat sapped their energy. It had been 6 months since Emily had come back; she and Kaylee had been dating ever since. Kaylee sighed, "Ugh, it's way too hot to do anything." Her words came out in her heavy Texas drawl.
Emily's eyes traced a bead of sweat as it trailed down Kaylee's neck. "We could go to the beach. Maybe invite Oz." Emily leaned back on her elbows and looked over at the cafe next to the station. She envied the ice cold drinks the people were drinking but had no money.
"Much as I like seeing you in a bikini I have to say no." Kaylee slumped back and looked up at the leaves blowing in what little wind there was. "Far too much effort I'm afraid."
They sat in silence for a few minutes just enjoying each other's company. After a while Emily spoke up. "Hey is it just me or does she look familiar?" She was pointing at a couple sitting outside the cafe who were deep in conversation. The woman in question had blonde hair and looked to be in her early twenty's.
Kaylee levered herself up to get a better look. "Yeah a little bit, maybe we went to school with her or something." Her voice was full of disinterest.
Emily looked back at the woman. "That's probably it, she's actually really hot." She said, waggling her eyebrows.
"Hey, I'm right here!"
Emily reached over and grabbed Kaylee's hand. "Oh but nothing compared to you honey."
"That's better." Kaylee said rolling over so she was lying on top of her girlfriend. "I love you."
"I love me too." Emily said moving in for the kiss.
yeah liked this pairing so much I wrote this little scene. If you have read 'Faith, love and that other thing' you might notice that the openings follow the same pattern but are opposites. The title refers to the Hayley Westenra song, so that makes both stories focusing on Kaylee/Emily being song names (or variations thereof) yay we have theme naming ^.^
For those of you waiting for the next major silicaverse fic it is nearly done just had to get rid of a few plot bunnies first (this and an extended version of 'Faith, love and that other thing') but the couple at the cafe are from the upcoming dollhouse fic so this sets a scale of time ('Faith, love and that other thing' is set a week or so after 'We are nothing if not human', this is set 6 months later and 'Every day I become a little less human'/'There is no black and white only shades of gray' are at the same time as this.)
Will have plenty of time for writing from Monday as I have two weeks off work so look forward to that.
