CHAPTER ONE

In a deserted library…..

Excerpt from: Demons for dummies;

"Demon" is another term for a human with special "abilities".

All Demons have powerful strength, night vision, and although it is unknown to what extent, amazing regenerative/healing abilities.

Despite this, they merge well into the rest of society. Almost to the point that you may not even know what they are. But there are some telltale signs that can alert you if one is near:

Some stronger Demons may have odd colored eyes. Also, it has been discovered that others still can possess "extra" abilities along with the basic ones. But the biggest difference of all, is their eating habit. A Demon can eat regular human food for nutrition, but just regular food alone does not give them everything that they need to live. Many peaceful Demons accomplish this task by "siphoning" energy from the emotions of others, while more abrasive Demons have been caught in the act of vampirism. Yet still, there are a few who have completely succumbed to cannibalism, going rabid, and murdering and eating a human for the "extra power" it gives them. Not much else is known about Demons. Your friend sitting next to you could in fact be a Demon in disguise and you wouldn't be the wiser… just kidding.

Or am I?

Attention:

All Demons are hideous monsters and are to be killed on sight. Anyone sheltering a Demon from special authorities will be reprimanded and dealt with as seen fit by the court.

His head rests on his chest as he is strung up for all to see. He can feel the hot sun beating down on him and their anger and fear in waves so strong, it's painful. Slurs are hissed and yelled out of the crowd who have gathered around. Monster. Demon. Mutation. He supposed he'd heard of worse. Especially towards a criminal. Criminal? What had he done? He existed. He was doomed to death since the day he was born, as were all other unlucky Demons his generation and afterward. But he was to be the example, the first public killing since the law was made. Yes, it was law. Demons and humans used to live together in peace. But now, it was a terrible day. And not just for him of course. Nothing would ever be the same. He can hear someone speaking, probably a long winded speech about how evil and vile he was for being different, to raise the crowd's bloodlust. Then, cheering. It was about to happen. And he didn't want to die looking so pitiful. But he was too tired to lift his head to bother looking. It hurt so much. A sudden gunshot, and another, and he stopped feeling anything. The last thing he hears is her wailing in grief.
