The Story of Nicholas Drake reflecting on his growing relationship with Lucy, and this takes place before they have started dating.
When exactly? Well thats a suprise.
Also this chapter is really short, as most chapters will be as they reflect on short memories of Nicholas.
My relationship with Lucky "Lucy" Hamilton had never been an easy one. Nevertheless, it was the only relationship I could ever imagine having with a girl, the only relationship I would ever want with one. I know I had never been her favourite person, and could you blame me? It was everyone older brothers job to make his younger sister miserable, and having Lucy around every single day since she was born often made her feel like a younger sister. So it was easy for to make her life very difficult just like I did with Solange. But in Lucy's case somewhere along the line things changed and she was not a little sister to me anymore.
I do not remember the exact day, month week or even year that I fell in love with her. I don't think I ever really woke up one day and exclaimed "I love Lucy!" like some cheesy fifties comedy. It was gradual, it crept up slowly but looking back at my life, I can see where my love really did make sneak peaks.
When I was seven years old Solange and Lucy were having one of their play dates, and with my brother doing their various activities that I was "too young for" I ended up being grouped with the girls watching TV as they played with their dolls. I whittled my thumbs and popped my gum as I tried to enjoy the television over their loud voices.
"Why don't we braid the dolls hair?" Solange asked as she combed through one of her dolls hairs.
"I don't know how to braid hair," Lucy stated as blood rushed to her cheeks.
"Well I can teach you," Solange smiled "I've been practicing on my dolls hair so that when my hair grows out I can to it all by myself," She stated with a smile as she ran her fingers through her ear length dark hair.
"Really?" Lucy asked. "I've never had my hair braided before," she said playing with the tips of her
It was then that I took the time to look over Lucy's long brown hair that curled at the tips and was currently wrapped around her finger. The sun from the tinted windows used to protect mom and dad from daylight hit her hair ever so slightly marking slight natural highlights and red and blonde.
I stared curiously at her hair, unable to look away until Solange let made a cringing noise and looked at me "Nicky why are you staring at Lucy?" She asked with a confused face.
"I was just thinking," I muttered slightly.
"About?" Solange continued to question, and this was on of the many times I wished Solange would just keep quiet.
"Nothing," I muttered.
"About Lucy's hair?" She questioned and I rolled my eyes in annoyance, "What do you think Nicholas, do you think Lucy would look better with her hair braided or the way it is?"
I was unsure of how to answer this. Sure, I had noticed her hair only seconds ago, but with the wide eye expression Lucy was giving me now, I knew she was expecting a correct answer, only I didn't know what it was.
So I reacted on impulse. "I don't know," I shrugged. "But I'm sure Lucy would look great like this," I said standing up and sticking my chewed wad of gum in her hair.
I wasn't sure what to expect of Lucy's reaction, in all honestly I didn't know that what I would get would be a reoccurring action, but I most defiantly didn't expect to get punched in my face. I mean, wouldn't you think that most normal six-year-old girls would just cry? Well that was the day I learned Lucy Hamilton was no normal girl.
And I loved her that way. Too bad, I didn't know it yet. Even worse, too bad she did not know it yet.
This is the first story i've ever written on the Drake Chronicles (I've just started reading the books) so please let me know if you think i captured the characters well.
