Disclaimer: Manga doesn't have time for this. I do. Obviously, I don't own it.
Because She Didn't Ask
Kyuubi Tenshi
"I won't ask you."
That was what she said every time.
"I don't understand."
It was the thing that passed her lips most often.
"I won't say I know."
She always gave him that bitter-sweet smile, and he knew that she was right.
Ever since their marriage a year after his return, those were the words she would tell him. When he was angry, she would remain quiet, and if she was hit, she would not complain. When he had nightmares, she would hold him, and then wipe his tears when she knew he was awake. There was no love; it was a marriage only to fulfill his goal, but she was happy. Every night she would lie in his arms, and bitter nostalgia would fill him, and he would fall asleep to awake again before dawn. Always, in the morning, she was gone from her place beside him. He would ready himself, and go to the kitchen, finding her there making breakfast for their four-year-old daughter and wishing their fourteen-year-old son well for whatever missions might present themselves that day.
When he entered, their son would turn and smile at him, and smile like his mother's, and would bid him good morning and farewell. Their daughter would jump down from her chair and race to latch herself on his leg, where he would pick her up and go to peek over his wife's shoulder at what she was making.
"Hi."
As if it were their genin days again, and she hadn't expected him to come by.
She didn't dare say 'good morning'. He knew she didn't know if it was. After fifteen years of marriage, they had come to an understanding. She would always say the same things.
"I won't ask you."
"I don't understand."
"I won't say I know."
Because he never explained.
Because she never asked.
AN: I come out with something like this every once in a while. Good, isn't it? I like this style. (too bad I can't pull it off very often...) Anywho, REVIEW!
