Disclaimer: I don't own Hannah Montana.
The following takes place when Miley is walking home after the scene at the beach at the end of 'I Honestly Love You (No, not you)And for the record, I don't care what he says Oliver was so in love with Miley at least in Season 1.
Revelation
Lilly and Oliver were in love with each other.
Those words didn't seem to flow well together to Miley as she repeated them over and over in her head.
Lilly and Oliver are in love love love love love love with each other other other other other.
When she said it enough it seemed to lose its meaning;
Just a gabble of foreign letters and sounds that surely did not belong together.
Lilly and Oliver could not be in love with each other.
Sure they were dating but Miley never really thought they would last.
They used to throw around insults at each other like it was nobody's business, 'I hate you' used to be their language, and a hug was never found between the two.
But now they were in love?
Now they had pet names, now they hugged, now they acted so annoyingly lovey dovey it was difficult for anyone to remain in their presence before being overcome with the urge to club them over the head with a bat.
Everything was so different already, would it change even more now that they had declared their love for one another?
They already went out to do so many things without her that she spent most of her nights alone or on stage looking sadly over at backstage where two people obviously remained missing.
Would they now stop sitting with her at lunch to be alone then too?
Or would they both drop out of school to get married because, what's the wait if they're both so in love.
Miley be rational, they're in love, not stupid.
What's the difference?
Miley just wanted things to go back to normal. She wanted to be the number one person in both their lives again (besides family). But she knew from now on in Lilly's mind it would be Oliver, then Miley and Lilly, then Miley in Oliver's, forever second best, overshadowed by her friends' relationship.
Oliver laughed at the idea of being in love with her.
He laughed.
Was the thought of her really that laughable?
It was a huge blow to her ego.
As conceited as it may sound, Miley had always thought that maybe Oliver had a little crush on her. How could she not? He was in love with Hannah, which WAS her with blonde hair, and he liked Luanne who looked exactly like her, and he always seemed so ready to do anything for her. But maybe he was just being a good friend. Maybe she confused loyalty with love. She felt so stupid. Just so stupid. And a bit sad. But why should she care if Oliver was in love with her or not? Why should she feel sad? That was silly, he was her best friend and obviously she should not care one bit. But she did, she did care one bit, and she had no idea why. No that was a lie;
Miley thought back to when Oliver gazed lovingly at his Hannah poster in his locker, and she felt her heart quicken just a little before a smile gave way.
She remembered hugging him, just holding him in her arms, and thinking of how strong his arms were.
There was the time, outside the tent, when their faces were so close she thought for a split second what it would be like to kiss Oliver.
She remembered the time when that wonder became an urge after he saved her on stage. For the whole day there was nothing more she wanted to do but kiss Oliver Oken.
There were countless times, they were all there, taunting her, mocking her, as if to say
"Him have a crush on you? Ha! It was you pining for him all along."
All of a sudden Miley felt sick to her stomach and wondered if her copy of 'The Notebook' was still on top of the DVD player and where that tub of Ben& Jerry's had gotten off to. She had a lot of moping to do.
