The Powers of Heaven and Depths of Hell

Does he walk on the clouds of your thoughts

Or does he slip through

And fall from the heavens of your mind

With a word, a word of love

Of grace and wonder

All rolled into a single feeling

That comes to mind when you say his name

A whisper in the midst of rapture that slips through your teeth

So often clenched in fury

At him or for him

But now all you feel is him

Everywhere

Beside you below you above you

And as your breath catches

The feeling tumbles from your parted lips along with his name

And in the fervor you hear yours said

But you could only see yourself skirting the edges of his beauty

How could a lost man ever compare

To the elegance of someone so heavenly

With so much, no too much heart

When you had barely enough to keep yourself alive

You can never conceive of why he could see you

But as cerulean meets emerald

It all becomes clear as the oceans his eyes seem to be filled with

Love is not chosen

Nor is it controlled or restrained

The powers of heaven and the depths of hell can push and pull

But they cannot direct love

Love is free and unwavering

And his is yours as yours is his
