Chapter 1: Erratic Escapes

My hurdling through foliage was just as hurried as it was when I first escaped that infernal compound. Twigs and leaves whizzed by my head with each leap and the occasional turn over my shoulder. I was getting tired and my pursuer knew it. Glancing behind me, checking the progress between us. TO my relief, I wasn't able to spot him at all. My destination wasn't too far, and I'd have enough energy. I took one final glance, prior to landing on the next branch, and taking a quick breather.

"Seems that I lost him."

I exhaled a long-lasting sigh of relief, moving from the trunk that had previously been my support when my eyes caught something on my shoulder. Oddly, a white spider. I halted my hand midway from shooing the creature from my shoulder, my brow furrowed in confusion. The spider was, strangely, made out of clay.

"Wait. Clay!"

I frantically shoved it off, but to my dismay, my reaction time wasn't swift enough. The small spider abruptly burst into a giant fireball, throwing my body aside like a rag doll, till I landed upon a nearby. As the smoke began to clear, I winced at a sudden painful motion in my shoulder. Pieces of bark had flown in all directions due to the explosion and one of them had made quite a significant journey a half-way into my left bicep.

Ripping off a the sleeve of my cloak, I painfully wrapped the wound; not worrying of the splinter for now. Clenching my teeth shut in pain as I applied the makeshift bandage and tried my luck in stopping the bleeding. Unexpectedly, I heard a fit of laughter behind me as well as facing a casually seated Deidara atop his clay bird.

"You really thought you would get away, hmm?"

I closed my eyes, letting a smirk grow on my lips.

"Nothing risked, nothing gained. Right Deidara-chan?"

A noticeable tick mark grew on his forehead, as I managed to discern a few grumbles.

"Smart mouth, hmm?"

I raised an eyebrow, surprised at him asking such an obvious question.

"Oh screw this! I'm bringing you back in a body bag, hm!"

He took no time in throwing multiple clay bombs at me. I rolled my eyes, easily dodging them; my red eyes locating each of the chakra signatures and effectively maneuvering away. I landed on another branch and made a horse seal.

"Well, Deidara-chan, I'd love to stay and chat but I must be going. Sad to say your mission at capturing and or killing me failed."

His eyebrow rose in evident confusion.

"What the hell do you me-"

"Like this. Katon: Gōka Mekkyaku!"

I breathed in; moulding superheated chakra inside my stomach before expelling it in the form of a massive inferno. Even as the flames grew to an immeasurable size, being safely perched on his bird, he easily moved to a greater height and avoided them. I left the technique to burn away and pushed off the branch to my escape.

After the flames sizzled down to a few scorched pieces of earth, most of the landscape was burned down; though I was already too far away to be spotted. I continued to jump from tree to tree as I managed to comprehend his series of curses. I smirked and urged back to my destination; I could now see my objective. The Village Hidden in the Leaves, Konoha.
