Christmas Wishes

Age 3: all he'd wanted was a little brother, someone to play with. He wanted to be the big brother, and he couldn't believe Santa hadn't brought him one. It'd taken his mom a long long time to explain that Santa wasn't allowed to bring people as presents, but that she and dad would talk about it, that he may just get a brother soon.

Age 6: he hadn't asked for the BB gun he'd been dying for since July, instead he begged Santa to break his rule about bringing people; that year the only thing on his list was his mom. He wanted his mom back so they could be a family again, so she could make Sammy the peanut butter honey sandwiches like she did for him on rainy days and so his dad wouldn't be so sad anymore. Instead he got a slingshot, and no mom.

Age 12: They were on the road, in some dingy motel in Indiana, and Sammy was 7 and still confused about their lifestyle. And Dean wasn't allowed to tell. More than anything, he begged their dad to make it home for Christmas day. He didn't want toys or candy; he wanted a real Christmas again. But the hunt got complicated, and he spent another Christmas disappointed.

Age 23: He knew it was a long shot, but he wanted Sammy and their dad to stop fighting. Sam had already told him he was planning on going to school in the fall, he hadn't told their dad yet, and Dean had a bad feeling it'd be their last Christmas together. He wanted one family Christmas, no fighting. But come Christmas Eve, they had a huge fight and Sam left 8 months before he had to.

Age 27: He wanted his dad back. After all of this time they'd just found him again, it wasn't fair. He prayed to anything to reverse the deal and to take him instead, but no one answered and Dean stopped hoping.

Age 31: He knew better, that there was nothing that could be done, but all he wanted was his little brother back, someone to hunt with. He wasn't done being the big brother, and he couldn't believe the angels hadn't saved him. So that was that, his line of Christmas disappointments. There was nothing else he wanted. Well, he wanted a lot; he wanted his family back, Jo and Ellen to be okay, and Adam to have never had to do what he did…more than anything he wanted to die, but he knew that was one Christmas wish he wouldn't let come true. Instead, he got a new watch from Lisa and a rope bracelet from Ben that he'd made especially for Dean.

Age 31: Dean didn't ask for anything, he'd learned not to rely on false hopes any longer. He didn't expect anything, but he got a family. Somehow through a watch and a homemade bracelet, a Christmas wish he never knew he had came true-he got a second chance.
