Alex stood firmly at attention with his fellow comrades in arms, they were in Hide Park the date 11/11/2011 time 11am, Remembrance Day a day on which the entire commonwealth remembers the soldiers who gave up their lives selflessly for queen and country, Alex stood thinking about all of them including his father and Ian.
Then a bugler lifts his trumpet and sounds relive Alex and his comrades stand at parade rest and were then ordered by their co to return to their trucks and stow away their gear then they were given liberty for the rest of the day, Alex know where he was going, he was going to meet up with K unit at a bar in north London and get drunk as he was 23 and a member of the S.A.S and was entitled to a day of being drunk wasn't he
Alex had successfully completed two tours in Iraq and he was decorated with Conspicuous Gallantry Cross in recondition of acts of conspicuous gallantry during active operations against the enemy and was awarded the rank of lance corporal and was heading up L unit .
Walking through the streets Alex was stopped many times by men women and children thanking him and even asking to have their photo taken with him although all of them were wearing poppies no one offered one to Alex as he was still wearing his uniform, however what was ironic was when he was passing a street a sudan pulled over and out came two men in suits with veteran patches on them and stopped Alex alex as instructed many years ago on his first remembrance day stopped, tuurned around and gave them a military salute waiting till they returned his salute then one of them said
"so sun where are you stationed?"
"S.A.S Brecon Beacons , sir"
"well I'll show you something if you can show me an S.A.S tattoo right now"
Alex pulled up the left sleeve of hiss dress uniform and showed the man a winged dagger with a scroll saying "who dares wins" the old man looked impressed and his hand went into his pocket and he pulled out a photo of wolf and says "this is my son do u know him?"
"Wolf is your son sir?"
"yes do you know him?"
"Yes sir I do I trained with him when I first joined the S.A.S actually I'm going to meet him now in a pub in north London and have a sort of reunion."
"well then I'll leave you on your way but tell James this noli obliviscipatremtuumsicutfonsvitae
Alex new a little Latin so he understood what wolf's father had just told him "forget not thy father according as the fountain of life" and Alex respected that "I will do that sir "Alex gave them a salute then turned and walked away, he arrived at the pub and sat next to wolf and whispered into his ear what his father told him and wolf was actually shocked and Alex could see in his eyes that he was going to go into what Alex called his robot mode so he signaled to the bartender and ordered two scotch's on the rocks and reached for his wallet and the bartender shook his head at him and said "today everyone in uniform drinks for free it's what you deserve for what you do to our country" then he said loudly so that everyone in the pub could hear "hey everyone a toast to all those who are serving served or died in uniform, here here" all of the pub lifted their glasses and toasted them then the chatter went back up again wolf drank and it sufises to say they all got drunk that day but only Alex was sober enough to drive because he had to report back at hell the next morning ( Brecon Beacons)
This story has been on my mind for a couple of weeks now and I decided to write it in memory of all those who served their country like the U.S.M.C say simper fi
