Definitely not my best work. A fluffy, domestic insight in Amy and Rory's life, after The God Complex

Rory looked at the wall clock in the kitchen. 17:08

He was a man with a surprise up his sleeve for Amy. She would be home in about an hour, and he wanted to surprise her with dinner.

He checked the fridge again - everything he needed was there. He smiled and took them out. The counter was soon filled by all the ingredients for lasagna. He glanced at the open cookbook next to the ingredients, and followed the instructions.

17:14

"This cannot go wrong" Rory was optimistic and talking to himself, while stirring the meat. Until now, it had gone smooth, but of course, the only thing he had done, was turn on the stove and put butter, meat and onions into the pan and stirred in it.

He was all smiles, when the finished sauce was simmering away on the stove. He poured the sauce into a dish, put the pasta on top, more sauce and then cheese again, and realized that he had forgotten to preheat the oven. "Great" he murmured, but thought, that if that was all that could go wrong, he was pretty lucky.

17:48

The oven had preheated, and Rory put in the lasagna, for it to finish. He was quite proud of himself, and figured it was time to prepare the salad.

17:52

Rory was still looking for the ingredients. "Amy, where did you put all the vegetables?" he asked himself, while looking in the fridge, the cupboards and every bowl they owned.

17:58

Rory had found four tomatoes, a small head of salad and some olives. He figured it would do, and started to cut up the tomatoes. "Ouch!" he exclaimed, and looked at his index finger. A clean, quite long cut had formed on the finger, and a small flow of blood streamed from it. He groaned, as he put it under cold water. He stood there for a moment, and then found a small band aid to put on it.

18:01

Rory was back and cut the last tomatoes a lot more carefully. Did he have time to drive to a shop and get some more vegetables for the salad? He looked down into the bowl, and looked at the rather sad four cut up tomatoes, the olives and the salad. He argued with himself for quite a while, and decided there was not enough time. He started the washing up instead. Right in the middle of washing a knife, he realized he had forgotten to buy wine, and figured he had to go and buy some, and walked right out to the car.

18:19

Rory ran back into the house which made a very loud noise he could hear even from the outside. "No, no, no, no, no!" he yelled all the way inside. He stowed away the bag with the wine, and hurried over to turn off the oven and take out the lasagna.

A cough sounded from the other end of the room. "Rory?" It was Amy. Amy. No, no, not already, Rory thought panicking. He put down the lasagna. "Amy?" "Rory, are you okay?" she found him through the smoke in the kitchen, and hold him. "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine" he said. "Ooh, well, not quite" Amy looked worried. "What do you mean?" she asked him. "It was supposed to be a surprise" he said, his arms falling down his body. "This is a surprise. I was not expecting to come home and see my husband burn the house down" she said. "Funny. It was supposed to be a nice surprise" he said. "You can't be lucky all the time" she said, and kissed him. He sighed. "I wanted to have a nice night with you, not one filled with smoke and," he looked over at the lasagna, "burnt lasagna" he said. Amy smiled, and cupped his face. "Nevermind that. I love you despite of your horrible cooking" she said. Rory could not help but smile.

19:02

Rory and Amy were sitting down on the floor, leaning on the sofa, and watched an old movie, drinking wine. "See stupid face, this was a nice surprise" she said, and grabbed his hand.
