she was the sea

AlwaysPadfoot

Ginny had never felt her heartbeat so strongly. She could feel it pounding against her ribcage in time with the bass of the music. It was like her heart was threatening to explode right out of her chest. The sound of waves crashed against her eardrums. She liked it; the music — the waves — it made her feel connected with something. It made it feel like darkness wasn't threatening the magical world's very existence.

Ginny slipped through a sea of bodies all moving in time; their skin clad with clothes that her mother would never let her leave the house in.

Someone grabbed her hands and pulled her through the swash of people all dancing together in the confined space of the Gryffindor common room. Ginny stumbled over her own feet. She'd had four sugary sweet drinks, maybe five. No, more than that — she was sure.

She wasn't ready to slow down yet.

Romilda Vane pulled Ginny against her, her dark blue eyes wide and lustful. Ginny drowned in them, every, single, time.

The next thing Ginny knew she was between the multiple groups of people on the dancefloor. She could feel Romilda's hands on her hips and her housemates breath on her neck. Ginny pressed her back against Romilda's body as their bodies swayed.

The music didn't seem as loud here, but everyone else did. Ginny could hear people yelling conversations that should have been whispered, and people singing. She could hear people chanting. She could hear them moving. Clothes rustled as people slid past her.

The lighting was more intense in the centre of the room and Ginny needed something to focus on.

Soft blues and sea greens flashed in her peripheral vision, and Ginny turned around, now face-to-face with Romilda. She looped her hands around the other girl's neck and pulled her closer, nearly tripping over her own feet. Romilda caught her elbow to stop Ginny from falling and they moved closer to the wall. Ginny slumped back against it and Romilda lingered barely a few centimetres away. She tipped Ginny's chin up and Ginny leant forward as though hypnotised.

Romilda pressed her lips against the side of Ginny's mouth and then everything sped up. It was like Ginny was watching what was happening, rapids tossing her from moment to moment. She felt her hands entangled in the thick curls of Romilda's hair. Her hands were on the small of Ginny's back and she could taste salt on her lips. Foaming excitement bubbled inside of her. Caught in a riptide, Ginny let the waves pull her under with their immense power, and let her lungs fill with fresh ocean air.

Romilda was the sea.
