The Avengers Initiative Expansion

.

"Alright. Listen up, recruits. I'm only going to explain this once," a dark hair woman dressed in an equally dark uniform announces as she stands at the head of the empty air-hanger, hands primed behind her back. Her eyes sweep over the crowd of gathered beings. "My name is Maria Hill." A few wolf whistles sound before they are silenced by a sharp glare. "Director Fury has left me in charge of the weeks precedings."

Stepping to the left she takes a breath, steeling her eyes. "You are all here because you are - remarkable. Each of you have been under the radar of the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division aptly known as S.H.I.E.L.D, from months, if not years. As you may or may not know, S.H.I.E.L.D has formed what we like to call The Avengers Initiative. This highly skilled, highly experienced group of individuals were able to stop an Inter-dimensional threat a mere three months ago, when New York City was under attack."

Stopping her movements Maria produces a small remote and moves to point it to the rear wall. Suddenly a burst of light appears, a rectangular shape in the form of a screen appearing. On it, one of the ugliest creatures in the galaxy stares back.

"The Chitauri are a cybernetic alien race - a technologically-advanced race of extra-terrestrial cyborg-like creatures. The enemy had made a deal with their leader, and in exchange gained an army of them with the intention to destroy earth. All for the sole purpose of obtaining a very important and powerful item."

Clicking the remote the screen changes to a dark haired man with pale skin.

"This is Loki Laufeyson, responsible for the chaos in New York. Driven with both jealousy and hate, he almost succeeded. Had it not been for a select few."

The pictures slide, one by one, showing the levelled buildings and the absolute destruction of four city blocks.

"The Avengers Initiative was based on an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people to see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could."

The slides continue.

"This is Clint Barton, code name; Hawk Eye. The world's best marksman."

Leah stands to the back of the room, trying her best to soak in each word the woman spews out. It is as nerve-racking as it is exciting. Glancing up at the screen she looks at the picture of Barton. He's a fairly handsome man, maybe in his thirties, but what catches her eye is the bow in his hands and the pouch of arrows attached to his back. The photo falls away to reveal a clip of the man in action. Dressed in all black he takes out opponents, one by one, as if they were merely sitting ducks. She's impressed to say the least.

"Natasha Romanoff, code name; Black Widow."

With fiery blue eyes and flaming red hair, Romanoff looks nothing like Leah expects and more like a grown up Renesmee Cullen. She mentally tucks away each image as it appears on screen, documenting as much as she can about each member of the team.

Maria continues to work through the presentation, announcing each of the names of the current Avengers, but Leah's eyes are glued solely on the screen.

'Steve Rogers - Captain America. Tony Stark - Iron man. Bruce Banner (who was even kind of cute) - The Hulk. Thor Odinson - The God of Thunder.'

Clicking off the screen, Maria turns back to the room. "Which brings me back to why it is you are here today. Director Fury believes that even though the Avengers are capable and more than enough as our first wave of Earths defence, that it is imperative we develop more waves. A second wave, a third - capable of picking up or filing in, should the first wave ever falter."

With a swirl of her finger, the metal doors behind her slowly inch open to reveal a huge area buzzing with S.H.I.E.L.D employees, doctors and even rifle totting guards. Stepping to the side, her arm bows backwards. "This is where you will all be measured, tested, catalogued and given your first assignments."

As Leah meanders past the woman, she doesn't miss the sweeping look from the brunette.

With a wink, the woman speaks in an all knowing voice, directly at her. "Welcome to The Expansion."
