~ Miles Edgeworth: Babysitter of Little Girls ~

"Come on, Miles, we have to report back to Papa!"

"You can go on ahead. There's one last thing I want to do, first," Edgeworth replied.

As he expected, instead of going home without him, Franziska chose to stay behind and see what Edgeworth was up to. As they walked out of the courtroom and into the hallway, he continued as though trying to persuade her to leave.

"Really, it's nothing to do with the case. You got here on your own, didn't you? You can go ahead without me."

"We need to make our report to Papa together. I'll wait," Franziska insisted. Then, unable to contain her curiosity any longer, she asked, "What are you doing, anyway?"

"Well," Edgeworth replied. "After everything that happened today, there is still one thing I've been wondering about…"

It was the Swiss Rolls from the vending machine, of course. Really, it was a ridiculous amount to pay for a simple snack…

It's worth it just to see the look on her face, he told himself as he inserted the required sum of money into the machine.

"That's what you were wondering about?" Franziska asked, sounding shocked.

"Would you like one?" he offered.

"No!" she snapped.

He could tell from the way she was staring at it that she really did want one. He'd bought it for her, but he wasn't going to give it to her unless she could admit that she wanted it. It would be nice if she could ask politely, but that was even less likely to happen…

And then, as if summoned by the presence of her favorite snack, Kay appeared.

Spotting the package in Edgeworth's hand, the little girl squealed, "Ooh, can I share with you?"

"Didn't you promise your father you wouldn't take things from strangers?" Franziska asked, glaring at the younger child.

"But we're not strangers anymore! We're friends, so it's okay," Kay replied, grinning.

"I don't mind sharing with you, Kay," Edgeworth replied. "Especially since Franziska said she doesn't want any." He opened the package and handed Kay one of the rolls.

"Why don't you want any?" Kay asked, addressing the older girl. "They're yummy!" She took a big bite of the snack, as if to prove her claim.

"I… I just…" Franziska stammered.

"Oh, are you on a diet?"

"I am not on a diet!" Franziska shouted, her frustration over the whole Swiss Roll situation finally getting the better of her.

"Okay, sorry," Kay apologized, not sounding sorry at all as she giggled and stuffed her face with delicious Swiss Roll.

"Miles Edgeworth!" Franziska snapped, brandishing her riding crop as if she meant use it.

Edgeworth waited, and when she failed to continue, he said, "Yes, Franziska? Did you want something?"

"I want… I want…"

It appeared that she couldn't get the words out, even though she seemed to have decided to be honest about what she wanted.

He took pity on her, and held out the remaining half of the Swiss Roll.

"You wanted this, right?"

She nodded, and he handed it to her.

"You're welcome," he said, smirking - even though she hadn't thanked him.
