Sestina Fair

Oh sestina, whose heart is FAIR

She walks silently in the NIGHT

Her dreams follow all that is GOOD

He sees her, sitting THERE

Her eyes shining in the LIGHT

He watches her, the way she SHOULD

-

She does not watch the way she should

She just sits, her hair so FAIR

She simply will not see the LIGHT

Believes she was born to endless NIGHT

While all the time he is THERE

The epitome of all that is GOOD

-

He believes his love for her is GOOD

And return those feelings she SHOULD

Forever he belongs THERE

With her – that is only FAIR

He sees her hide in the NIGHT

Slowly he switches off the LIGHT

-

She shields her eyes from the LIGHT

Convinced that her way is GOOD

Her need to escape the NIGHT

Conquers everything – as well it SHOULD

Can she not see his intentions are FAIR

That it is for her he is THERE

-

Still he knows he'll always be THERE

When she opens her eyes to a new LIGHT

A new life, deserved well and FAIR

He knows they'll have it GOOD

That he can give her the life he SHOULD

And finally draw her away from the darkest NIGHT

-

And when she no longer goes cloaked in NIGHT

Having realised he was always THERE

She'll look at him the way she SHOULD

Her eyes now sparkling in the LIGHT

Her small hand in his will feel so GOOD

And he will look at her, and speak words FAIR

-

Envoi

He has drawn her from the NIGHT into the LIGHT

They are THERE, and all is GOOD

As it SHOULD; as I have described in this sestina FAIR.
