True Love's Kiss

"When True Love's kiss the spell shall break," her maidservant quoted, again. The princess turned from the other girl and gazed out the window.

For sixteen years this curse had hung over her head. For sixteen years this singular line had given everyone hope. Everyone, that is, but her.

For the princess knew the truth. There were arranged marriages, and there were times when souls touched souls, but there was no such thing as True Love. Love was not real. It was simply a faerie-tale.

And, as she gazed out her tower window, thinking ahead to the inevitable pricking of her finger, she wondered what it would be like to sleep for eternity. And she wished for dreams, in her everlasting sleep. And, in the deepest part of her heart, she prayed that all faerie-tales came true. She wished and prayed and hoped to find True Love.
