By his lonesome, Riku sat on the crooked Paopu tree and gazed at the sky which was a lovely mix of pink and orange due to the sun setting. He smiled to himself.
"Home sweet home," he said in a whisper. He had missed the islands dearly along with the memories it held from when he was younger. The silver-haired was still disappointed with himself for turning to the darkness just to leave the small world he was stuck in. It wasn't worth the pain he went through for the two years he was gone. He had caused so much trouble. He began blame and hate himself for everything that happened but he didn't in the end. The reason for that? His two very best friends had convinced him that he wasn't responsible for all the chaos. It was Xehanort's doing. They knew Riku only acted to obtain one thing, strength to protect what matters. He wanted to keep them safe because they were so dear to him.
Speaking of Sora and Kairi, Riku wondered what those two were up to. He hopped off the tree and made his way back across the bridge. He figured that they might have gone home already since it was getting late but he wanted to check before he left. He headed inside the shack but didn't find either one of them. However, he did find another friend.
"Hey, Riku," Selphie said with a smile. She was packing up unique looking seashells in a backpack.
"Hey," he smiled back, "heading home?"
"Yeah, Tidus and Wakka are waiting for me by the dock." The green-eyed girl zipped up her backpack after putting in the last souvenir. "I think Sora and Kairi went to the place behind the waterfall. Y'know, where we all used to draw?"
Riku's eyes widened slightly. "How did you know I was-"
"Oh, come on," she cut him off, "you guys are always together! Plus you're so easy to read." Selphie laughed and waved Riku goodbye as she left out of the wooden seaside shack.
'Always together. I wonder if we really will be.'
Shortly after his talk with the girl with tawny hair, Riku left and walked towards the waterfall.
'Haven't been in here in a while...' he thought as he made his way into the dark cavern. He looked around his area seeing white chalky drawings that decorated the walls. A small grin appeared on his face for the illustrations triggered various childhood memories. He was brought out of those memories by a strange sound. It was like a mix of snort and a giggle. A sound Kairi usually makes when she's embarrassed about something. Selphie was right. Those two were here. Riku followed the sound, expecting to see his friends drawing on the walls.
But he was wrong. That wasn't what they were doing.
He didn't say anything when he saw them. Instead, he just stood there waiting to be recognized. And it didn't take long for them to notice.
Both pairs of blue eyes grew large. They pushed away from each other, making their lips disconnect.
It was silent.
It was that weird silence that comes after being discovered. It didn't last long however because Riku began laughing.
"So, you two finally got together. I knew it was bound to happen sooner or later," he said in a cocky but playful voice. Their faces flushed.
Sora and Kairi took their eyes off of Riku for a moment and looked at each other. Smiles slowly spread on their faces. They turned to look at their silver-haired companion. Those smiles weren't happy or embarrassed smiles. No, they were sinister ones.
Before Riku could ask what they were up to, he was tackled to the ground when both bodies pounced on him.
"What are you guys doing?"
Sora and Kairi responded to the question but not with words. Kairi kissed his left cheek and Sora did the same to his began laughing and gave Riku the biggest and most loving group hug.
"Of course we'll always be together!" Sora said cheerily and Kairi nodded.
"Oh, and before you ask, it's because you're easy to read."
Riku smiled. He loved his best friends.
A.N.- Like it? I hope so, I wanted to make this short and sweet!
