3 years after the Hutts' recent invasion of Alderaan, the Republic learned that a greater evil was using them, but they didn't know what. As for the Skywalkers, they've been meditating on the matter to see if they could discover the source of the dark presence they've felt since that invasion, but they've had little luck. All the while, Leia found herself falling in love with Captain Solo, and him with her.
Meanwhile, Silri and her master, Snoke, had freed the ancient Sith army from their carbonite hibernation. After a lengthily recovery from carbonite sickness, the army was updated on the galaxy's current state and its technology and pledged allegiance to Snoke and Silri. Meanwhile, their builders had constructed a massive super weapon into a planet, even greater than the Death Star once attempted by Darth Sidious during the Clone Wars. By drawing power from the planet's sun, the weapon could wipe out at entire star system.
Back on Coruscant, Anakin assigns his son a student of his own, a young boy named Rowan Freemaker. Strong in the force, the boy hoped for nothing more than to be a Jedi. Luke wasn't so sure he could be the teacher Rowan needed, but having gone through the experience himself (with Ahsoka Tano during the Clone Wars), Anakin knew Luke could do it. Meanwhile, Snoke and Silri tested the power of their new 'Starkiller Base' on the close by star system where Alderaan could be found. The beams of sun were seen from nearby planets and the Skywalkers all felt the suffering agony of those who died on the destroyed planets.
Suddenly, Leia gets visions from the Starkiller Base in her head through the force. With flying details, she's able to keenly describe the base to the Republic military, so they could find a weakness and destroy it. So Leia and Han lead a small Republic team through the base to shut down the deflector shields for the attack to work. While there, they have a run-in with Silri, who engages Leia in a duel that leads them through the nearby snowy forests. By concentrating on the force, Leia is able to overpower Silri.
Meanwhile, the Republic attack on the Starkiller Base is successful and the weapon collapses, and the planet itself with it. As fierce quakes break the planet apart, Silri falls into one of the cracks to her demise. Leia and Han flee the planet, leaving Snoke's forces in defeat. Upon returning to Coruscant, Leia and Han are hailed as heroes. They confess their love to each other and marry.
