Why was Katara stopping at every stand in the street? As if there was something she would actually buy from a man selling nothing but cabbage. Her basket was already full of purchased food, which was all she needed to get. So why were they still here?
Katara said goodbye to the cabbage merchant and turned to look at Zuko. "There's one more thing I need to get." He didn't move. "Come on!" She insisted, grabbing his hand and pulling him along with her.
They walked together through the crowded area. His hand was still in hers. She hadn't let go of his had yet, not that he was complaining. Zuko wouldn't say it out loud but he actually like the way her small and soft hand fit into his rough and calloused one.
All too soon she stopped at a clothing shop. Katara let go of his hand and wandered off towards the back. Zuko tried to follow her but got lost in the sea of red clothing.
After a few minutes of aimlessly staring at one piece of cloth that could have been a belt of shoes - he really had no idea - Zuko heard Katara's voice ring out through the small shop. "Oh, I'm not alone." Who would she be talking to ? He followed the sound until he reached her. SHe was talking to some other man.
"Who're you with then?" The guy asked.
At that moment Katara noticed Zuko. He could practically see the gears in her mind turning, forming a plan. "There you are, Sparky." Katara said confidently. She gestured for Zuko to come forward. He obliged, coming from behind the guy.
"I'm here with my boyfriend." She grabbed his and and laced their fingers together. "We're getting my little brother some souvenirs!"
"It's you." The guy said. Zuko looked at the guy - and it hit him like one of Katara's water whips. This guy was here the last time he came to Ember Island. His name was Chan, or that's what he thinks it is.
"Ah, yeah. Well, we have to go. It was nice meeting you." Zuko said, hurrying Katara to the owner. She looked at him quizzically, but didn't say anything.
Once they left the shop, Katara turned to him. "Who was that?"
"Nobody, Sweetness." He replied, using one of Toph's many nicknames for her. Katara looked at him pointedly and he smirked.
"Sure, Sparky." Katara said as she squeezed his hand, which was still threaded together with hers.
