Summary: She recognized the music.
The party was in full swing when she arrived, late as usual. As usual, her eyes were drawn immediately to him even across the room. She watched, a tiny smirk forming as Rodney continued to prattle on, then trailed off as he noticed that his audience wasn't even looking in his direction anymore. He followed his friend's gaze, gave her a short nod and left to find another victim. John would be unavailable for the rest of the night.
John made his way across to her, stopping briefly at the DJ seated by her laptop. She saw the young marine smile and nod at her CO's question, tapping a few keys.
"May I have this dance?" he asked bowing before her. She raised her eyebrow at him, then placed her hand in his. He led her on to the floor. She decided she was going to ignore the whispers barely heard all around.
The music began and she took in a sharp breath. "John. You didn't." She should have known he would. His little boy grin should have given him away. If she had been near a wall she would be heading it right now.
"I dunno. Kinda appropriate, don'cha think?"
"Puh-leeze"
"Elizabeth..."
"Shut up and dance with me."
A few snickers were to be heard as some of the team members recognized the song. Those who didn't just looked blank until the key lines of the song rang out. Then the room erupted in whoops and whistles.
A girl trying to find herself the perfect man is
Like trying to find Atlantis!
