"Tell me, Peeta, is there a special girl back home?"

"No… Not really, no."

"Oh come on, with that face? Tell us!"

"Well there is someone…"

"You go out there, you win this, and she will be there when you come back home."

"Well… I don't think winning's gonna help me, to be honest."

"No? And why is that?"

"… Because I came here with his best friend."

She couldn't believe her ears. Or eyes, for that matter. Peeta was sitting there, calmly, across the table and she didn't know if she should say something, or look at him, or even act like he was there. Peeta was eating his dinner, calmly. And the silence was so thick; she could cut it with a knife.

"Good interviews, everyone." Effie suddenly said, and even though her voice wasn't that loud at the moment it was like a sudden thunder following the silence that had been. "I think it all went rather well, don't you think?"

"Swell." Haymitch said, draining his glass. "Swell, really. They're going to love it."

Peeta shrugged, still acting like nothing had happened. Katniss couldn't believe it.

"You should have said something." She finally said, making herself the center of everyone's attention. "I mean, you could have… I would have… for god's sake, Peeta."

"Now, now, Katniss." Effie said, like she tried to calm down a hurricane. "Not that kind of language when we're having a nice dinner, if you wouldn't mind."

"Well I do mind." Katniss spat out and tried to catch Peeta's eyes, but he was eyeing everything else in the room, carefully avoiding her glance. "I mind a hell lot."

Effie looked shocked, but Haymitch chuckled. It made Katniss even angrier. Her eyes shot fire, adding to the whole girl on fire-thing like she was on tv right now.

"I don't think this is funny at all."

"Well I do."

"They'll be all over him. Do you know what you have done?" she spat in Peeta's direction. "If this is some sick twisted way to get sponsors I just…"

"Well it's not." Peeta busted out, finally giving up on being silent. "It's not, okay Katniss, can't you just understand?"

"No, I can't!" she yelled and was tempted to throw the fine china to the floor, or on Peeta. "It can't be true, it's just some game for you…"

"Oh, because everything that you have no knowledge of can't possibly be true." Peeta said, rolling his eyes. "Don't you see what's wrong with that?"

"I just… god." She said, furious. "When? When did this happen?"

Effie and Haymitch silently got up from their chairs and left the room, like they didn't want to be in the line of fire anymore. Peeta looked at Katniss calmly, which made her even angrier.

"I don't think it's any of your business."

"Hell it is. I want to know. Because I think everything you're saying right now is crap. I would've known if… He would have told me if anything was going on!"

"Would you believe him if he did?"

Katniss stared at Peeta.

"Of course I would."

"I'm not that sure." Peeta put down his fork on the table. "You can't believe me, right? Why would it be different if he had told you?"

"I don't even want to answer that." She said fiercely. "We've been friends since… He would have told me. And of course I would have believed him."

Peeta got up from the table.

"Whatever you say Katniss, whatever you say." He made a little bow before leaving the room. Katniss threw a glass half filled with water after him. It hit the door and shattered into a million pieces.

The crowd going wild. The clock is ticking. It's about to begin. The 74th Hunger Games. And all eyes are on them. The love triangle from district 12. How will it end?
