The school hall fell into a silence once again as the lights were dimmed leaving a low level light on the stage. The performance of the younger students had been going for 45 minutes so far, with varying degrees of talent. From youngsters who wanted to be singers, to those learning instruments. Even to the most patient parent in the audience the ten minute long recorder solo had been painful. But the proud delighted smile the young girl got when the crowd cheered was worth every second.

After a brief break it was time for the youngest students to come on. All these students had written or drawn pieces that they would read and show to the parents. The first youngster came on and and read a very exitable piece; which included leaping around the stage, about being a race car driver. That elicited a lot of laughs from the watching audience much to the delight of the young showman. Another student a very shy young girl got a big cheer when she successfully read out her short poem after a moments tears that so many people were watching her.

The teacher vanished briefly when they youngsters forgot who was supposed to be going next, a young boy ran out frantically trying to organise his story and delighted in telling the audience all about his last holiday. Includding some quite embarressing typical holiday snaps which caused yet more laughter, and his parents sunk lower into there chair.

As he left he high fived the next youngster on, Jack Hotchner stood looking out taking a moment to scan the audience. A huge grin on his face when he saw his dad sat in the middle, with his team filling the row next to him. He rolled his eyes when he saw his Aunty Penny had a camcorder but chose to ignore it. Just like he'd agreed with his dad, so he didnt get nervous, he'd look straight at his dad and no one else.

Taking a deep breath he picked up the first picture holding it high so everyone could see it. In a shaky nervous voice he began to explain what the drawing of two people in the rain was all about.

"This is me and my daddy we is lone cos cos the bad man took my mommy.. and he made us real super sad. So we gotta help each other and try an maked each other smile really very much. But its hard cos its just us and my daddy has to work loads."

This prompted quite a few "awww's" from the audience, Hotch took a breath and nodded at his son, smiling. Trying to control his own emotions, all to aware of the team sat off to his right. They watched as Jack put that picture down and picked up a second one, this one had a lot more people in it. As well as a bright sun in the sky.

"This is me, and daddy and all daddy's team. Cos family isn't jsut mommys and daddys. Familys is all the people that love you and care for you and all my aunts and uncles love me and my daddy very much. They is mine and my daddy's special family. We is mix matched but we love each other."

For a few seconds the room is silent, save for a few sniffs from people who haven't been able to hold back the tears. Then the room erupts in a huge cheer, the watching audience stands up giving Jack a standing ovation. Garcia scanned the audience with the camcorder to capture the reaction, much like her self there was tears in the eye's of almost everyone. Not a dry eye in the house.

At the end of the performance Jack bounded over to his family and almost jumped into his daddy's arms who picked him up and hugged him tightly.

"I easy got the loudest cheer didn't I daddy" He beamed with pride as he felt all his aunts and uncle's ruffle his hair or rub his back.

"You did buddy, and i'm so very proud"
