Inspired off of paperseverywhere lyricstuck from tumblr and page 007837 of the homestuck comic. Wanted to write it since I know completely how Karkat feels.

Karkat huffed out, feeling irritated with the situation and himself. He has talked to Dave about this, but it still bothers him. Everything that Karkat said is true; he really was alone. He wondered idly where Dave was, since the boy was never around anymore. So much for being bros, Karkat thought bitterly.

He snarled to himself and stood up. He didn't want to be just sitting there sulking, and he definitely didn't want to be caught sulking. Oh, no. He was the mighty leader and mighty leaders don't sob over their lack of friend count. Shoving his hands in his pockets defiantly, he marched down the hall, trying to get away from his thoughts. It was quiet and he knew that everyone was off somewhere, doing their own business.

He heard some soft talking that caught his attention. Curious, he peeked around a doorway that was to his left. Rose and Kanaya were sitting on the floor, happily talking. Kanaya was glowing, apparently a new found talent of hers, and it made the room seem to glow happily. An amazing feat in such a dark room. Karkat smiled; he was happy for them.

A sense of loneliness hit him like a wave, and his smile disappeared. He sighed softly, and turned around. He was glad for Kanaya, but he almost felt like he was losing her friendship. He started walking down the hallway again, maybe this time heading for his room instead. However, a tug at his shirt stopped him. Karkat looked at the source, curiously, wondering what had grabbed him.

He recognized the light before he saw her face. Kanaya was standing behind him, smiling kindly. He couldn't help but returned the gesture, even if the muscles in his face was tired. "Where are you going, Karkat?" she asked, her voice as soft and kind as ever.

"Just going to my room. Didn't want to bother you guys," Karkat replied.

"You're never a bother, Karkat. You should know this."

Oh, he missed her. It felt like he hadn't talked to her in ages. Maybe he really hadn't talked to her in ages. He swallowed the painful lump that was stubbornly growing in his throat. Finally he managed to choke out a thanks. He watched as she studied him with careful eyes. He let her, too tired to really argue about it.

Finally her eyebrows furrowed in concern when she was done 'studying' him. She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him, giving him a hug. Kanaya was a bit taller than him, giving her the perfect reach for a huge. She whispered in his ear, "you're my friend, Karkat. I'll never forget about you."

He tried to hold back the tears, but in the end, he couldn't. The spilled out without his permission. He felt Kanaya hug him even tighter and he returned the gesture, wrapping his arms around her back. He was so tired and afraid and alone, and the comfort of a hug just brought out the tears he had. At one point, he had his forehead resting against her cool neck. He sighed and took a deep breathe before stepping back.

Karkat sent Kanaya an exhausted smile. "Thanks. I needed that."

She smiled in replied. "I know you did. Go sleep, Karkat. You need sleep."

"Yeah, I just might do that." He gave her one last smile before turning and walked towards his room. He smiled to himself. It was nice to know he wasn't completely alone.
