Becky and Luke Chapter 1
"Becky, wait up!" Luke ran up quickly. "Hey, how are you feeling?" Becky felt bewildered and ambushed. "What do you want? Yes, if you were wondering, I am still pregnant. And no I have not made the appointment to become not pregnant. Now I really have to go." She wanted to be out of there, and alone at home with a carton of ice cream and The Notebook. "I was wondering, if you maybe wanted to go for a drive and talk?" She nodded thinking that once again she may have made a massive mistake.
Luke started up his truck in silence. He was unsure of how to start this conversation but knew he was the one who had to start it. He drove out to an abandoned back lane covered in dust and dry grass. It had not escaped his knowledge that during the drive Becky had shed a few tears. If he was completely honest with himself, he too had at night when he couldn't sleep.
"So I need to talk and could you please just listen?" Becky nodded and Luke drew in a long breath. "I've been awake every night so you told me and it's scaring me what I want you to do. I cannot let you get rid of this baby. We created it and it's not fair to this child that we did the wrong thing and the baby is the one to suffer. I'm not going to make you keep it but just know that if you do decide to have the baby, then I will take it and raise it with or without you. If you're worried about what everyone will think then I will punch anyone who gives you any kind of look or comment. So what do you say? Maybe baby?" Luke let out the breath, he was subconsciously holding. Becky looked pale and ready to pass out. "Luke, I really like that you tried this but do you know what that would mean. We are 16! How the hell are we meant to do this. I really want to but we can't. You think that I don't spend every waking moment thinking that currently there is a baby breathing and eventually that baby will not be breathing because of me. I hate myself for it." They were both crying. Luke pulled Becky in for a hug and the tears continued to flow.
"Becky, you and I, me and you. We can do it. So you just have to go to a doctors appointment which I will pay for and then we just wait nine months and get more money. And then we decide if I take the baby or whether we do it together. One day at a time." Luke was serious and didn't appear to be changing his opinion. "Ok Luke we can try it your way but be aware this isn't for a day or a month, it's for the rest of our lives."
