His breath was still heavy. He tried to calm down during the trip back to the lab but it didn't work very much: every time he closed his eyes the sound of the bullets made them open up as if he had just woken up after a nightmare.
The shirt was covered in blood and he had to change before getting back to work: he wanted to play the bad cop but maybe that shirt was to much to handle.
He reaches for the sink and sees his hands soaking with the red liquid and automatically his eyes start looking at the wedding ring on his finger. He starts rubbing the blood off, he doesn't want the others to ask about the shooting.
The phone rings: Lindsay. What the hell was he thinking? The vest was back at the lab and he still went for the guy, the thought of his wife and child didn't even cross his mind while getting into the building.
-Hey babe-he's happy to hear her, just the sound of her voice makes him go ecstatic.
She asks him how's he doing and how the others are and he can't help but answer- Same old, same old-because she would be mad at him if she knew . He doesn't want to hung up but Mac is getting impatient and so he tells her he loves her and turns the phone off.
-How's Linds?- asks Mac when he joins him.
-She's fine. Misses the lab but loves being back to her cows- he answers chuckling.
-Danny, about today: next time you do something like that, you're fired. Got me?-
He looks at Mac in the eyes, he knows he acted like an idiot but he still has a few problems remembering he's not alone anymore. He promised to take care of Lindsay and their child and he's not going to fuck everything up.
-Got ya-
