Disclaimer: There is no need. I made this up on the spot with no intentions of having to base if off of something. Actually this is my English paper about the hero's journey. And this is the only disclaimer that I feel like typing for this story, so if you want to read the disclaimer at the beginning of each chapter, too bad. I ain't typing anything else.
Chapter One
Back in the time when wolves ran by day and ruled by night, birds called at dawn and were silenced at dusk, the only thing you had to fear was rouge wolves and the Dark Order, lived a female wolf named Syfr.
Syfr was a proud, beautiful, and strong RiverPack wolf. Her silky smooth white fur reflected her personality; innocent, pure, but tainted with darkness. All four of her paws looked as though they had been dipped in midnight, with matching swirls running down her sides and a black muzzle. Her unusual blue eyes reflected the water she had grown up living in.
Syfr looked over at the dark foreboding forest tree line from her place on the river bank and pondered the same question yet again, "Why can't I go into the forest?"
"Don't even think about it."
Syfr whipped around, teeth bared, eyes glinting, icy with defensive intensity, a menacing growl rising in her throat before she calmed herself down enough to look at the imposter on her secret place.
Relaxed, time worn, brown eyes met her gaze steadily.
"Jeez, calm down. No need to attack me," he said.
"Well then Gengi, don't sneak up on me like that. It's not smart to do that to the pack leader's daughter," Syfr retorted.
The older wolf looked upon her somewhat pityingly. Gengi was the pack's storyteller, and no one except Syfr seemed to sense the hidden meaning in them. His stories about phaeries, dark spirits, and unmentionable (though he mentioned them anyway) curses were real accounts of what Shakri's rule had brought to the valley.
"I just came down to tell you that you need to come back. You really shouldn't be our here alone."
Syfr's heart thudded at the mention of being alone. She hated to be abandoned; being in solitude was her greatest fear.
"I'm not alone!" Syfr snapped. She had tried to convince herself that she wasn't alone. She had the fish, brook, birds, and mountains to be with her. Familiar places were kind to her.
However, she knew Gengi was right. She had a commitment to her pack that couldn't be preceded by selfish desires. As she followed him back, Syfr asked Gengi what had been bothering her all afternoon.
"Gengi, why can't I go into the forest?"
The older wolf paused for a second, then responded, "Because as soon as you step paw into that dark place, Shakri's dark magic will have you changed in a matter of mere seconds. Only a purely innocent soul can be strong enough to free the Valley from Shakri's dark power. You cannon be allowed into the forest; you would be killed immediately."
Stunned into silence, Syfr trotted behind Gengi, thinking his words over.
