Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you"
Birds singin' in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me
Jesse had heard Finn sing, he had heard Puck sing, he had heard Mike doing something that sounded mostly like noise. This, however, was the first time that he heard Artie sing. He must admit he was impressed. It made him wonder however, about Will's choir director skills. He honestly let Finn have solos over this guy? Not something Shelby would do.
Shelby wasn't the wisest person however, even if she was an excellent choir director. She stupidly had thought she wouldn't grown attached to her baby. Perhaps she didn't. Perhaps she didn't have the time. But still she felt the regret. And when Shelby heard Rachel sing Don't Rain On My Parade – Jesse swore he saw tears in her eyes. She gave him her instructions soon after that.
He didn't see Rachel's reaction to the tape – he knew it was something personal for her, not for him to share. He could imagine it though. He glanced at the girl next to him, she was impossible to read. He let his eyes linger anyway – she was looking remarkably beautiful, like she often did.
Say nighty-night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me
As if Artie's melancholy wasn't enough, the words of the song brought Jesse down even more. Because he knew he was leaving, soon. He also knew that his good bye would not be gently and sweet, it would not end with an embrace, it would not end with her telling him she'd miss him.
He could only dream she would remember him, with some fondness. Why wouldn't she? He argues. Does a bad ending erase all the good moments? It couldn't be possible, with all of their passionate kisses, heated debates and breath taking duets.
Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longin' to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this
Jesse had analyzed the lyrics closely, but still he didn't know how relevant they would be for his future. He knew he had began to care for Rachel, that he had grown to like her, but he had thought it was something shallow. He thought he would forget her soon. But that was not the case. Months passed by after the song; months filled with flings, months filled with pretty girls.. and still he craved Rachel Berry's lips, and everything else that made up Rachel Berry. At least he could meet her in his dreams.
Sweet dreams til sun beams find you,
Sweet dreams that leave our worries far behind you;
But in your dreams, whatever they be,
Dream a little dream of me
