As we dance, I know that heaven can be found.

"Hey." Stefan's soft voice echoes through the trees surrounding her and Caroline quickly sweeps away the tears cascaded on her face. She knows that there's no reason to hide from him, he saw her crying her eyes out the night she turned, but she's supposed to be stronger now. No long the weak and scared girl he hold in his arms, but the better version of her. A better version because of him. But still. Her heart aches so much and maybe she isn't brave enough to hide it. Not from him, anyway.

He sits quietly next to her, on that hard wooden bence, not saying anything. He doesn't need to, he never did. He just knowswith her. "Tyler will never come back." Caroline says it in a whisper, still scared to admit it out loud, thinking that maybe if she doesn't, it can still not be real. But it is. The love of her life will never come back to her and she's all alone. Again. Or maybe not.

Stefan's hand is warm and comforting when it holds hers, silently telling her that she has a friend and that he will never leave her. He promised that, after all, and Caroline always trusted him, as if her heart always knew he would've been the only one she could've always count on. He still is.

"It wasn't supposed to be like that. My prom." Caroline doesn't know why she needs to tell him about her girlish human dreams, maybe because she knows that he will understand. Maybe because she just needs to talk, after another crazy night that didn't go how they had planned. Stefan still doesn't say a word, silently inviting her to go on.

"I was destined to be the Prom Queen. Not letting my best friend stealing the perfect dress for me. Dance all night with my date. And after the win, dance again, with our crowns on. Everything was supposed to be so perfect. I never doubt it, you know? I was just so sure." She laugh sadly at her foolish dream. She should've known better the day she turned that nothing could've never be the same. Not anymore.

"Maybe we can still save something of this night." Caroline looks at him like he's totally crazy, but then a shining tiara appears out of nowhere between his fingers, the moonlight reflecting on the tiny little diamonds decorating it. Stefan has the brightest smile on his face. "You stole it?" Caroline tries to sound horrified by it, but her eyes shine with excitement. The crown she choose knowing that was supposed to be hers. How did he…?

Stefan just shrugs and he put the tiara on her head. He picks up his phone and after a second a very romantic song breaks the silence surrounding both of them. That song. Caroline knows it. She choose it as well for the winners, because it was her favorite.

He stands up, extending his hand to her. "I know I'm not the King of your dreams, but…" He trails off and she looks at him with pure adoration. She takes his hand while she forces herself to stay quiet, to not telling him that he isher perfect King. It's written in the way their bodies fit perfectly and sway at the rhitm of the music in sync. In the way his mere presence is enough to make her smile again and let her think that maybe her dream has come true, in a way.

Caroline hides her face in the crook of his neck, inhaling his scent and trying to not let him see the tears of joy that want to fall from her eyes. For once in her life she feels loved, and safe, and complete. And when the song ends and Stefan takes her chin in his hand to let their eyes meet, she knows that everything she's feeling is real and that he won't go away. Not now. Not for all the years they will have the luck to live.
