Soul Mates
In an old folks home, two old men sit in wheel chairs side by side holding hands, speaking to their -slowly drifting off to sleep- young grandchildren, who are curled up next to the warm fire at their feet.
Old Man 1: "And that was the story of how your grandfather and I met."
Old Man 2: "And all the adventures we had together."
A nurse walks over, acknowledges their remarkable story that she had overheard, and then explains that there's apple pie ready for supper if they want to make their way over to the dining area.
Old Man 2: "Apple pie! That's your favourite!"
He exclaims, looking over at his - after all these years - still handsome life partner.
Old Man 1: "Well we better roll on over there before it's all gone then."
He says, with his trademark crooked smile whilst grazing his thumb over his husband's rough and worn hand, from all his years of being a soldier.
Another man walks by, using a tall walker to help support his aching legs and back.
Old Man 3: "Dean! Cas! Come on! You're missing out on pie!"
He shouts as he hobbles to where supper is being served.
Dean and Cas laugh as they pivot their chairs around to follow, never letting go of each other's hands.
Dean: "Sammy! Save some for us!"
He calls out after the tall figure, before leaning over to kiss Cas gently on his stubbled cheek.
