The young girl rose gently from her stakeout post, not entirely sure that the enemy had been defeated. She glanced around quickly; she then spared a moment to look up. The once dark, starless and moonless sky was now a pale blue, streaked with gold, violet, crimson, and orange. She let a swift smile escape her normally solemn expression before shaking her head to clear the ringing echoes of the cannon-fire and gunfire. When she could hear properly again, she began to pick her way through the rubble left by the battle. The dead and the injured were everywhere. She bit her bottom lip gently, but continued on to find her leaders, Zephran and Kazzeh.
Her shoulder-length, dark brown hair floated gently behind her as she walked, torn free of its red ribbon. She wore the standard uniform of her side of the army, the colors being crimson and black. Her eyes were a deep, chocolate brown, but, though they were darkened by war and battle, held a blazing fire within them. Her skin was unusually pale for someone that was staked out day and night. Of course, she wore no make-up. She spotted the two figures of her leaders, and she broke into a run. "Kaz! Zeph!" she called.
However, over the clamoring, the figures did not hear her. She, still in a run, came closer to them. She skidded to a stop next to the female, panting. "Have... have we won?" she asked. "Yes. We have, Shadow, "Zephran said, turning to her with a small smile. Shadow grinned, saying, "So the war is finally over?" Kazzeh nodded. "Yes, it is over," she said with an amused sparkle in her eyes at the younger girl's eagerness. Shadow's grinned widened.
"Finally!" she exclaimed happily. "Shadow, go find the others, "Zephran ordered. Shadow saluted, she then bolted off to find Expo, Kelanialania, Corpse, Thunderfoxclaw, and the many others in their army. She found Expo and Messehpie still at their stakeout, having no news of the battle as of yet. She bounded to them, calling, "Po! Messeh! We won! We won!" The two girls let out a whoop of joy, then linked arms with themselves and Shadow. The three girls, after discovering that it's quite hard to run with your arms linked, bounded off to find the others, each in a separate direction. Shadow called to a sitting female form that was attempting to heal a rather large dragon, "Kaori! KAORI! We won!" The female looked up and said with a grin, "We did? Well, that's obvious, as if we hadn't, you wouldn't be bouncing around." "Duh," was the laughing reply.
To cut a rather long story short, the others were found and led to Zephran and Kazzeh. The two leaders said that, indeed, they had won, but they had suffered many casualties. "However," Zephran had said, "Considering the majority of the war, the number of casualties was quite small. Now, round up the injured for medical help and the dead for burial. Hurry, now." The troops scampered away to find the dead and assist the injured to the medical building. Soon everyone was assembled in the medical building so that the injured could hear. Zephran spoke of how everyone had acted bravely, especially the messengers that had to take the risk of running through enemy lines to a different stakeout with a message, then back. He also spoke of how strongly and determinedly they had fought.
After the speech, the soldiers were instructed to head to their barracks and get some sleep. The command was gratefully followed, and thus ended the last day of the battle. However, the war, surely, was to continue on.
