"Location: The Mushroom World, the Nintendo Realm of the Dream World, October 14th 2150"
One night, Moon had woken up and couldn't go back to sleep. He decided to get up and get a drink of water in the kitchen. But as he made his way back to his room, he noticed Rosalina standing out where she usually did on the hub, stargazing by herself. He decided to go over and see how she was doing. But as he neared her, his mother finally took a deep breath and spoke as she continued to stare up at the stars.
"Oh, mother, how I have missed you so." Rosalina said softly.
Moon stopped walking, but Rosalina didn't seem to notice him. The young woman continued to look up at the stars and kept speaking to the one she missed the most since childhood.
"I hope you've missed me, as well. I still remember the days when you and I used to have our picnics by that tree. Those were very fun times with you, and they were even fun with father and brother! How we all laughed!" Rosalina said.
Moon frowned and walked over. Rosalina looked over at him.
"Moon? What are you doing up?" Rosalina asked.
"Couldn't sleep. How about you?" Moon asked.
Rosalina sighed.
"I'm just feeling a little sad." Rosalina replied.
"Why's that?" Moon asked.
"Well... I've just been thinking of my mother a lot lately." Rosalina replied.
Moon gulped, knowing how rarely Rosalina mentioned her mother.
"You mean Grandma Jenette?" Moon asked.
Rosalina nodded.
"Yes. I've just been missing her. When she died, it hurt me greatly. You... remind me of her so much." Rosalina replied.
"Really? What was she like?" Moon asked.
Rosalina smiled.
"She was beautiful." Rosalina replied.
She proceeded to tell him everything about her backstory. How Jenette had died, how she had met Luma and built the star ship, her journeys, meeting the Lumas, building the Comet Observatory, and so on.
"And I've been up in space ever since, caring for the Lumas like they were my own." Rosalina replied. She then frowned and said "And I realize that while I might have lost someone dear to me, we still have each other. One... never knows when they'll last see their family.".
She looked to the side, where she saw the entrance to the Garden. She remembered the times she and Jenette used to garden flowers nearby their home, when they smelled the flowers along the way to their many picnics, and more.
"The day your grandmother died, I'll never forget how sick she had gotten. It was one of the most frightening moments of my childhood life. I prayed and prayed that she'd get better, but I know she didn't." Rosalina said.
A single tear began to roll down her face, but she was able to smile.
"I do know that she's resting in peace under our favorite tree. That's what matters right now. Ever since I had that dream, I begun to realize that she really is the sun, the moon, and the stars that are watching over us. For that, I am very grateful to her." Rosalina said.
Moon smiled.
"And you still have us." Moon added.
Rosalina nodded.
"Yes, me and your father still have you and your siblings." Rosalina said.
"Mama! Mama! Mama!" a little voice cried out.
Moon and Rosalina both looked over and saw a red Luma flying towards them. She flung herself in Rosalina's arms and began to sob.
"I had a nightmare! Make it go away, Mama!" the Luma said.
Rosalina smiled.
"Don't worry, little Luma. I'll always be here for you, as the moon, sun, or shining star in the sky." Rosalina said.
The Luma calmed down
"Thank you, Mama!" the Luma said.
Rosalina giggled and started heading inside with the Luma. Moon started following them, but then stopped and took a look up at the stars.
"Take care, Grandmother. Please continue to watch over me and Mama, like you've always done." Moon said.
"Moon! You coming?" Rosalina called out.
"Coming, mother!" Moon replied.
He ran over to Rosalina, and they and the Luma made their way back to go to bed.
