I wrote this for class and we had to use a rhyme scheme so some of the rhymes might not be perfect and sound a little off. Technically this is a ballad poem.
Mulan
Once upon a time,
There lived a girl Fa Mulan
And her partner in crime
A dragon with more brains than brawn.
Big in personality
Yet small in size.
His lack of brutality
Wasn't scary in anyone's eyes.
Let us not forget the cricket
Who assisted them both.
For he was the ticket
To their luck's growth.
Mulan's dad had a bad leg,
He could barely walk.
Which is why she begged
When there came talk
Of him entering the war.
She told him he mustn't go.
Her pleas he ignored.
The Huns were his foes.
The night before he left
Mulan went in his place.
From her own home she committed theft
A sword, armor, and horse just in case.
She met Mushu, her protector
And his cricket ally.
They snuck into the army together
Their plan a little awry.
Mulan became Ping
As she played a man.
They thought her the real thing
Although she strayed from the battle plan.
Burying Shan Yu in snow,
She became wounded.
Now all the soldiers know
She's a woman; they felt stupid.
She was banished,
Then witnessed a fright.
She became anguished
As Shan Yu rose in the night.
He targeted the imperial city
Mulan had to warn the emperor
She knew it wouldn't be pretty
If Shan Yu got there before her.
She arrived just in time
To save his majesty.
Her skills were quite sublime;
She averted a tragedy.
The emperor named
Her savior of China.
Li Shang claimed
He forgave her for breaking the law.
Mushu became family guardian,
Mulan fell in love.
With who else but the chieftain
A match made from above.
