Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I do not own Inuyasha. I'll repeat that again, I DO NOT own Inuyasha. I'm just using the characters for my amusement, and no, I do not earn money for this. It would be great if I did.
Summary: AU. One girl. Two brothers. She was promised to one, while falling helplessly to the other.
Mailing List: Email me at and in the subject line type "Mailing List for The One" (unless you want to be added to all of my other stories). Or you can simply leave it in a review. The thing is, I have no idea when I'm updating next.
Other side notes: Well… usually I don't do AU's extreme like this; but, I couldn't help it. It takes place in Inuyasha's time, but Kagome (and her family) lives in it. Some things may be altered, but I'll keep to their original personality as close as possible. I promise. Or else there really isn't a point doing a fic, now is there? No. I think not.
Special Thanks: To my beta on this story, Rugz, one of my many best friends. I can always trust on you to correct my grammar.
Now, let's begin this thing….
Two souls falling in love can be a very special thing. The journey there could be priceless. The outcome has potential to be remarkable…or a total disaster.
It was just another day. A lightly bronzed arm lazily rose so that the hand could gently wipe away the sleep out of its right eye. A yawn, which its volume increased, escaped his lips. His mouth reverted to closure and as it did it concealed his fang-like teeth.
He rolled over on his back and started to mutter something incoherent. Then his eyes opened slowly, revealing beautiful, golden irises. He squinted suddenly for the sun's piercing rays blinded him temporarily. He smiled….
…waiting for nothing.
It was just another day. Two arms sort of flapped to keep a body afloat. A content sigh escaped her lips then her full, coloured mouth closed.
She kept drifting in the clean, blue water that helped her to relax. Her dark hair had spread out and like her body, it float. By now, her ivory-coloured skin began to wrinkle up just like purple prunes. For only a moment her chocolate coloured eyes crept open, and the warm, yellow rays of the sun briefly blinded them. The young woman squinted, and then she slowly closed them as slow as a garage door falling down in place. She smiled….
…waiting for nothing.

Chapter One: Out There Somewhere
/
"Souta!" Her voice echoed and re-echoed in the forest. "Where are you?" Kagome walked through a forest that was so-called rumoured to be demon-infested with good reason. She frowned bitterly at her chore to find her younger brother. Normally, being a lady, someone else of the house would have done it; but Kagome refused being considered useless. She despised a women's role in a family. It was so utterly unfair.
Be prim. Proper. Respectful. Take care of the men.
It was expected, being an aristocrat like herself.
She snorted. That didn't stop her from being out here. It wasn't like she was unprotected; after all, she was gifted with a priestess' powers.
"Souta!" she yelled again, her irritating voice boomed through the murky forest. It wasn't really like him to be out this late. He knew better. He knew there were demons out here. Plus, he was a chicken-shit. She rested her hands rested on her hips and she muttered something that sounded like, "Where are you?"
"Where am I?" a little boy, who just entered his double-digit years, asked himself. As it became darker the forest was becoming scarier. He didn't want to be demon chow.
Then he heard a loud growl and that was enough to make him jump… and so he ran.
What followed was a laughter that erupted in the cool air. A little fox-demon emerged. He de-transformed to his true self and Souta scolded.
"That wasn't funny. I thought we were supposed to meet hours earlier!"
Shippou frowned but he couldn't help laughing. "I'm sorry. My dad was teaching me some super-awesome attack."
The taller boy looked amused. "Really?" The tone he used didn't sound like he believed the shorter demon.
Shippou nodded. He was ready to prove it. He saw that the other boy was itching to challenge him.
Then they heard another growl. This time it was more feral, more beastly. Then some noises that were a mix of gurgling and howling followed. It sounded like the devil just possessed someone. Almost.
Souta and Shippou looked at each other and swallowed hard.
"You didn't do that, did you?" Souta glanced down at him.
Shippou nodded nervously. He was becoming frantic. "No…"
Then like thunder ripping through the sky, a gang of horrid demons tore through the forest to encircle on their prey: two boys; one young, youkai child, and one young, human boy.
"Run!" Souta shouted, his eyes widening. He was so scared. He almost wasn't able to move.
Shippou followed the boy and wailed loudly. "I'm too young to die!" His arms were raised high in the air, flapping around wildly. The drums of the hunt pounded… pounded…pounded on.
Normally, this half-demon wouldn't be out strolling in a forest. It wasn't like he wasn't strong or there was lack of protection; it was just that there was no real need to. If he wanted to get to a certain place, he could have jumped and glided through the air. But today, it was different.
He just felt like doing it.
Suddenly, his ear twitched picking up on the cries of boys. He sniffed the air carefully. There were a lot of demons and the scent grew stronger. He cracked his knuckles effortlessly. Defeating them would be too easy.
His stance remained casual but he turned in the direction where they were coming from.
In no time the two boys scrambled to a clearing. If they weren't so out of breath they would have been awed for what was awaiting them. They hoped he was a savoir rather than a foe.
Shippou stumbled forward, his face smeared in the dirt. He cried out, "Don't leave me!"
Souta's pace decelerated and ultimately stayed back to help out his friend. For a second, honour swelled inside of him and he quickly came to the aid of his friend, helping him back to his feet. When he looked up he was horrified to find a swarm of demons heading their way. Oh they were close. So very close.
Then they heard those three words:
"Kaze no Kizu!"
Blinding light expelled from the big sword, razing, burning, and disintegrating the approaching demons. Their piercing cries could be heard and the sound faded gradually. The holder of the grand sword felt no remorse.
Normally, he wouldn't be so heroic and save others, even though his father instilled such a message onto him. But today wasn't a normal day.
The boys were safe. And oh were they so thankful and impressed.
The young woman finally found Souta and was thankful that he was safe. Kagome ran to her brother and wasn't too surprised that Shippou was with him. When she came close, they hadn't acknowledged her. At the moment they appeared to be fascinated with the lines on the ground. Odd. It sort of looked like something had burned there.
"Hey Sis!" cried Souta. "You missed him!"
Him? Her eyebrows lifted up in curiosity and she waited for them to elaborate.
Shippou crawled up on Kagome's shoulder. "He was great!"
"Yeah! He had this cool, big sword and when we were going to be eaten up by this gang of demons, he swung the sword once—" Both boys imitated the sword strike.
Shippou cried out, "Kaze no Kizu!"
"—and they all disappeared…like in a explosion!" Souta raved.
Kagome frowned. "Who is he?"
"Oh, we don't know his name…but he wore all red. He had long silver-white hair."
"I remember now!" Shippou cried. How would he forget?
"His father is the Lord of the Western Lands, Inutaisho. He has two sons. The one with the super awesome attack is the one with that cool sword… Inuyasha."
Kagome nodded slowly, trying to intake what the boys were talking about. She heard about Inuyasha—somewhere—indeed his father was popular. But thoughts about him didn't go on for much longer because…
If he was so cool, why didn't he stay to protect them—or bring the boys out of the forest safely?
Together, Kagome, Souta and Shippou walked back to their homes and she didn't take this incident or "Inuyasha" to heart.
Sesshomaru, the first heir to the Western lands, half smiled. Recently he returned from other lands, battling, wondering subtly. For the former, he was representing his father. Personally, he wasn't one to do favours for others, but it was necessary. Like hell his brother would be able to do it without damage. He was—
"—so reckless," he murmured as his lips lowered. They touched the rim of a glass and slowly he drained the contents that burned in his throat. It last for only a moment.
This youkai, Sesshomaru… he was so beautiful. He was in his prime, and was so powerful.
His cold eyes looked out of the window. In the castle that was known to be his home was where he currently rested. In seclusion, his thoughts trailed. He hadn't seen his brother yet. Yet. He assumed his brother was always in some sort of trouble.
"Mm."
The stars twinkled in the dark sky. There was a no moon to be found.
"He turned human." But where was he?
Aside from the change in his brother, something else was different. He took in a deep breath, and he felt it.
There was a change in the air.
GD'sNote:
Wow this is a big jump from DBZ G/V to Inuyasha. I'm so excited; Inuyasha is currently my obsession at the moment. Well... I don't know what to say.
Did you like it? Thanks for reading and please be responsible and review. And remember, if you like, I have no idea when the next chapter will be ready. I'm currently working on two other stories.
