Prologue
Five years ago, a strange thing happened in the Evergreen Forest. A meteor known only as the Mystery Comet had crashed into the forest one summer night; it was said to hold the seeds of the last living queen of the dog planet Sirius, Queen Mira. Whether the legend was true or not seemed to be the hot topic among the citizens of Evergreen that night, leading to countless speculations about the Mystery Comet or its alien creator. It wasn't until a certain raccoon came along that the true purpose of sending the seeds away to another planet was revealed-to ensure a future revival of the now-extinct Sirian race.
That person was none other than Bert Raccoon himself. Having heard about the legend of the Mystery Comet, he was more than eager to see the meteor in action as it sailed across the nighttime sky. He got even more than he bargained for when it crashed into the earth and gave up the seeds it had protected; the raccoon accidentally ingested the blob of seeds...and the rest, they say, is history.
Nine long months heralded the arrival of twins, Altair and Lyra Raccoon. Their birth was prone to cause quite a controversy for only two reasons: first of all, they were half-Sirians, crossbred from Queen Mira's extraterrestial DNA and Bert's own, and that could mean they'll be the odd ones out amongst the regular population. And secondly, of all things, he gave birth to them himself-when he's only just a male!
Thankfully, his cousin Dr. Rebecca Raccoon had a solution. Not long after he and Lisa got married, in order to keep the twins' true origins a secret, she made up a cover story for the couple saying both Altair and Lyra had been adopted from an orphanage; if anyone were to ask how Lyra got her light-green fur, it's because she was born with a rare genetic disorder that changes the color of her fur. Thus, poor Lyra was about to be subjected to being alienated from other normal kids her age because of her appearance, which we will witness within the next chapter.
