This is something I wrote when I was grounded…and bored. Thanks to Queen of Reality for editing. Enjoy.
When You Thought I Wasn't Looking
Lilly picked up the crumpled paper sitting on her boyfriend's bed. She opened it to see his messy handwriting.
Dear Lilly,
When
you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you sneak my birthday present
in your closet.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you
hide the t-shirt I left at your house.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me on the cheek and tell me you loved me before I told you.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you pay for your portion of dinner on our 3rd date.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you steal the cookies my mom made for me.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you steal my favorite sweater and wear it to sleep.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked right back at you and surprised you and said thank you for all the things you did while you thought I wasn't looking.
Love,
Joe (Your DJ Danger)
Lilly wiped her tearstained face, but the salt water kept trickling down her cheeks.
"Mrs. Jonas?" Lilly's soft voice rang. Mrs. Jonas looked up.
"Since Joe's…since Joe's passed a-away and he can't give this to me, can I keep it?" Lilly's voice cracked as she held up the letter. Mrs. Jonas nodded and fled from the room that had become so familiar to her forever, tears running down her cheeks. Lilly sobbed still sitting on the bed and pressed the precious letter against her chest.
When Joe had gone missing, Lilly had thought that Joe didn't love her anymore, and that he had run away because of their argument that day. She thought back to the numerous times that she'd sit by herself, crying and missing Joe when she thought that no one was looking. But now she knew the truth, and she also knew that this time, Joe was looking. He had never stopped loving her, and he will continue to watch her back for the rest of her life.
And for the first time in a long time, the heavy burden that had been on Lilly's heart was lifted, and she walked out of the Jonas house with her head held high and the everlasting memory of Joe safely locked away in her heart till the day she dies and they reunite in heaven.
So, there it is. Very short. Love it? Hate it?? HUGE thanks to Queen of Reality in this. Review if you want.
